Good day:)

Posting this for a friend. He has an old takedown .22 rifle in mint shape and has a few questions about it.

How old is it? Is it worth much? What's the history on these?

After looking online a bit it is my understanding that there are Belgian and Japanese versions of this rifle with the Belgian ones being worth more? It is very well made and in good condition.

Any help is appreciated.

Your friend has one of the nicest Belgian FN Grade 1 Browning Semi Auto 22 that I have seen in a long time, fitted in an factory Browning case with the rare wheeled rear sight! Probably built in 1973-76 peroid, but if serial# is 73T763 it was built in 1973. If you could take a picture of the scope and top of action it would clear up a few issues, and more info could be gathered, great rifle! if ever interested in selling ,please Pm me here, Dale in T-Bay

Retail I would say it is worth $600.oo + with the case.
I see these cases sell 1-200.oo , thou I have never
had one myself.
I just bought a run of the mill sa22 for 325.oo, and good
ones sell in the $400.oo range ( no case), and the standard
sight.
I know of a NIB 1970"s? in the cardboard box, sold this spring for 600.oo
I think a browning collector would pay top dollar for this one.
BTW, The browning (FN) custom shop in Belgium is making
SA22 grade 11 for $4000.oo and grade III for $6100.oo ( USA$)

P.S., I am forgetting about the scope - What is it , if factory add to the price

Guessing 56-58 production

Wheelsights were only made for 4 years and ended in 1959. I have collected these for almost 30 years. I think the value estimates given are very appropriate for the age and condition of this piece. the luggage case for this model is not year approppriate for the white insert in the handle was introduced in 1960 and continued until about 1964. Serial numbers were not recorded meticulously until after 1961 when the year of manufacture was inserted before the "T" with 1T###X being 1961 and 2T### being 1962.
The highest number I have heard of prior to 1960 is T95000 so this is a mid to late 1950's production.
Nice example of a Belgium semi auto.
