Just got one today. an 1910 to 1920 Metropolitan Arms Double barrel. wood shows its age, but the steel is remarkable. it needs new retaining nuts for the firing pins.(have wtb ad on EE)one is actually split in half. Black powder proofed, and damascus barrelled. i guess it would be worthless w/o pics. giving it a good cleaning, there is no evidence of pitting or rust in the chambers or barrels. locks up tight as well.

this area concerns me a little

re the retaining nuts or collars on the firing pins; I think you are far better advised to find someone locally with a metal lathe and have them make new ones. The thread is probably a metric one and 26 tpi would be my guess as to thread pitch but that is just a guess.

If these are pics of the actual gun then I would be cautious. Anytime one sees a gun this old with "remarkable" steel with very good bores, but wood that really shows its age, that should raise the red flag. In this case, you said the gun has damascus barrels. The pics don't indicate damascus barrels which either means they have been improperly blued or they aren't damascus. If they have been refinished, then the bores have likely been honed to get rid of pitting. If they were, how much barrel wall thickness remains?

A couple of your pics also make it look like there is a considerable gap between the barrels and the face of the action? Are you sure there is no play?

The left side lock plate is sticking out of the receiver frame.
I would check it and see if it is straight or warped.
the big screw at the back will let you take the locks off.
