Does anyone know anything about the history of these? In my research I am finding values running from $200 - $10,000. Mine is a 16ga sxs (boxlock) scalloped receiver semi pistol grip stock, with beautifull deep red colouring, tastefull deep scroll engraving 27 1/2 in. barrels. On the site;www.littlegun.be/arme%20belge/a%20a%20artisans%20identifies%20gb.htm the closest one I can find that looks like it is Lochet Habran any ideas on values or makers? Sorry this is not a "tactical" post. Thx> P.S. this is a great site for Belgian gun lovers.

Well, the grouse might consider your gun to be tactical. The reason you are finding such a wide range of values for Belgian guns is because they built guns to fill virtually every market niche. Far and away the largest number of them were inexpensive, crudely built examples which cost less than the competition even after overseas shipping. Some were mid quality guns, a very few were top quality. Many makers would produce a ton of junk, with a few specially ordered fine pieces. The Belgians were businessmen, after all, and most produced guns built to a price point. You name the price, and the gun would be built with quality commensurate to that price.

Because of this state of affairs, it is almost impossible to provide a value for a Belgian gun based on a makers name. Each gun must be evaluated on its own merits. It takes someone well versed in double gun technology to accurately assess the gun's quality and therefore its value.

Many of the guns can make excellent shooters, but remember that a gun made in 1900 probably has short chambers and was never built to withstand the pressures of modern ammo.

I had the gun valued today at a local shop. They said the quality was outstanding in the $3500 - $4000 price range and it is chambered for 2 3/4" shells. Birds beware. Thanks for the advice Sharptail.

It would be very useful to the members of this board to see photos of a fine quality Belgian gun. You do not find them sitting on dealer's shelves very often, and having a basis for comparison is helpful. Besides, this is CGN - gun #### is mandatory.

Win/64, congratulations. A 16 gauge with modern chambers should bring big smiles in the field. Do you know how much the gun weighs?
