Yes. People shouldn't dismiss the Leo 1 on the basis of straight comparisons of gun and armor. Crew proficiency and tactical handling can make a big difference.

Not to mention, look at what they're going up against. Russia is digging increasingly deep into the reserves. A Leop 1 against a T-80 is probably going to have a very bad day. Against a T-64 fresh out of the long term storage depot with the water freshly drained from the fuel lines and a bit of rust knocked off the gears to get it running, and a couple rattle cans of Rust-Oleum to make it look less janky... Put your money on the Leop 1.

Russia has no mothballed t64's. They have t62s, which are significantly inferior to Leo 1.

Fwiw, t64 was built in Ukraine back when it was part of the Soviet Union and Ukraine's best tank formations run t64.

My uncle's brother repaired them back in the day. So he got to ride in them for the check out rides after a repair. Cross country pushing it they used 500 litres in an hour

Fuel economy is an issue, given the logistical challenge there.

I think the Abrams gets about 100 meters to the gallon. That is why it has a 500 gallon fuel tank.

You're probably right. I get the "T-series" numbers jumbled up. Kind of like I get the American habit of calling everything "M-#" for different platforms jumbled.
