Got a belgium 16ga sxs. It looks to be nitro proofed. Looking for info on who would have used the stamp with the fella hitting the anvil. The Name on the gun is hard to read from the pitting.Any info would be much appreciated.

The maker’s name says “Buret-Dumont Montereau”. It’s hard to see, but your photo magnifies it nicely.

ETA: They made guns and automobiles according to a registry from Montereau-Fault-Yonne that I found when I googled the name.

Yet, that’s the ONLY reference to them on the ‘net. Either they were simply putting their name on guns and autos made by others (like so-called “hardware store” guns that were sold in North America), or they were incredibly obscure.

If somebody like Pinfire sees this, he may be able to find them in a database that he has access to.

Thanks for figuring out the name. A french name on a belgium proofed gun.

Much like Canada Belgium has two official languages, French and Flemish, and two distinct original ethnic groups. The Walloons who speak French and the Flemings, who speak Flemish, a version of Dutch.
