Hello. I am looking at picking up a remington 700 sps varmint 204 ruger and would eventually really like to throw a bell and Carlson tactical varmint stock onto it. I am new to this and had a few questions. Would I have to have a gunsmith do this? Would it be worth my while as far as accuracy goes? Is there additional work to be done or do you just throw it In and shoot? Where is the best place in sask to find a stock like this? I know thats a lot of questions, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Which stock are you looking at, the fully adjustable one? If not, the Model 700 XCR comes with a Bell and Carlson stock. I just picked one up :)

edit : sorry, doesn't come in .204

For plinking or hunting just bolt it down and go, no problem. If you want a little extra, bed it. It's easy to do yourself. YouTube and google will help.

Jerry at Mystic Precision can get you the stock. He is a board sponsor at the top of the page and importer for B&C. You can also try a WTB ad in the EE. You will more than likely see an improvement in accuracy. The SPS stock is all plastic whereas the B&C has a full length aluminum bedding block and Im sure is alot heavier. Coupled with the wider range of adjustability to help get you more comfortable behind the rifle it can help you shoot tighter groups without fighting yourself so much. A skim bedding job would be a good idea and easy to accomplish. The entire install will be simple enough for you to do at home, youtube and google can help if your not sure what to do.
