I'm interested in switching out my b & c Pachmere recoil pad for a Limbsaver... Which seems softer and looks like it may slightly increase the lop. Any idea if l can? Can't really see how the Pachmere is attached... Thanks.

For where you're at, up in harsh country, the Pachmayr will serve you far better as far as durability is concerned. Limbsaver rubber is easily scuffed or torn when rubbed up against rocks and tree bark. No biggie to swap out to a thinner or thicker profile Pachmayr Decelerator pad if need be.

It does feel more durable... It feels a fair bit harder...any experience how the two compare for reducing recoil? Shooting a 300 wm...cheers.

Comparing the 2, I have found the Limbsavers to have a tad more cushion to them on things like 45-70's &.458 magnum rifles as well as on 12 ga. shotguns with both brands of pads being the same thickness. On a .300 mag., most folks won't feel much of a difference.

Limbsavers are not easily sanded to shape & final finished compared with fitting a Pachmayr due to the gummy nature of the Limbsaver compound. Go with the Pachmayr fer sure.
:)

Look for tiny holes in the buttstock. Poke a screwdriver in there and unscrew, should be two of them. Philips.

If no screws, cut it off with a utility knife close to the stock, take your time and bend it sideways while you cut.

Should be screws, but at least the option is there... ;)

Yeah, no sign of holes...hoping when l switch over from my T3 hunter stock to the b & c the lop doesn't decrease...

Maybe switch it over before you order a recoil pad for it? or lay it next to the tikka for comparison? Shouldn't be that much difference either way, and at least with a Tikka you can put a picatinny rail so that you can move the scope around if need be.

I too prefer the Decelerator to the Limbsaver and personally would not touch it. I have/had the B&C stocks with the Decelerator on a 7mm, 300 win mag, and a 338 win mag and they work great for me. Never saw noticeable differences between the Decelerator and Limbsaver other than wear.

I read up about this before and came to the conclusion that if you really must this is one of the most common methods of removal:

Dismount the stock from the rifle and put the entire stock in the freezer. If you don't have a freezer compartment large enough for the stock, put the butt down into a cooler full of ice water for about an hour. This will harden the glue and make it brittle.
**Carefully** use the side of a putty knife against the junction of the pad/stock, and tap the other edge with a light hammer. The glue will break, releasing the pad with no damage to the stock.
Clean the glue off while the stock is still cold, or drop it back into the freezer/cooler awhile to keep it brittle. While the glue is cold, it cleanly chips away and is not the big mess some folks seem to think.
Once the stock is clean and smooth, you are now ready to install the new pad.

Some also suggest doing it with a heat gun and a razor... What ever way you think is going to separate the epoxy better. A word of warning, some people do chip their stock with both methods.

Another option is to consult with a good gunsmith to do it for you so they can fit a grind to fit pad afterwards as well. Should not be an expensive job I don't think and could save you a lot of hassle.

Right. Yes, they line up similarly... Looks like lop may decrease, but hard to tell...waiting for my talley lightweights to arrive. Scope will be all the way forward.
