Belt fed. That's pretty sweet eh?

Wonder if a gun like the Vz59 is on the prohib list anywhere?

Because its an LMG mostly.

But then . . . the lads in America do crazy things. Like make semi-only versions and get them approved by the ATF.

Our Semi UK-59 begins as a 40 pound block of 4140 steel, which is CNC milled to the exact dimensions of the original UK-59 receiver, with the exception of larger internal rails, and a different interior profile where the front of the bolt carrier meets the receiver. This ensures that the receiver is considered semi-auto by the ATF, and perfectly legal to own.

That sounds pretty good right?

MarColMar then contracted with Lothar Walther of Germany, to order custom 7.62x54r machine gun grade barrel blanks, which we then turned to the exact O.D. dimensions of the original UK-59. These blanks are then chrome-lined by the same company that does many of the industry's best manufacturers, to give you same quality barrel as was the original.

MarColMar's ATF approved semi-auto design also retains the original method of charging the gun, via a movable pistol grip. This unique feature ensured that the squad gunner could keep their firing hand on the pistol grip at all times, allowing them to keep their eyes on the target and provide for extremely fast clearing of misfires and misfeeds. This was the very same design feature many thought could never be retained in an approved design, and keeps the spirit of the original design alive for modern collectors and shooters.

This design results in a semi conversion that is virtually indistinguishable from the original gun. The incorporation of the semi-hammer or striker converts the gun to closed bolt operation.

Well geez that sounds pretty good to me. Made by http://www.marcolmarfirearms.com/

Retail is almost $6k but they have an intro price on the first fifty guns at $4,295

Anyone ballsy enough to reach out to IrunGuns and have them do the import? That's a similar price-range to the other belt-fed-beauties currently available in this country.

Or am I way off base? Is this thing actually a Bren gun variant and prohibited by association with gang violence?

IIRC, Marstar had a prototype that was initially approved by the RCMP, but then rejected.
It sounds as if this ATF approved gun is a different design. If it is ATF approved, it very well might pass inspection here. However this will require that someone submits a specimen for examination.

1959 is after the cutoff date for belt capacity no?

I believe it is limited to 5 except if the belt for the firearm was made before 1945.

Prohibited Devices

2. (f) is of the “belt” type consisting of a fabric or metal belt, is not a reproduction and was originally designed or manufactured for the purpose of feeding cartridges into a automatic firearm of a type that was in existence before 1945.

marstar was gonna sell them for $2000 , there was a good demand at that price, i dont believe there would be much demand at $6000.

If the belt was made for a firearm that was in existance prior to 1945, then the belt is not a prohibited device. If the belts this gun uses are the same as those used in the SG43, for example, they would not be limited to 5 rounds.

The waiting list for the TNW M37s filled up fast, notwithstanding the over $5000 price. There would be sales for this one even at $6k.

from tnm site "Only 125 of these (m37) rifles will be manufactured and we are offering a special dealer discount on the first 50 units of only $2,700! Call today to reserve yours at this special price. After that, the price will be $3,995."

is isnt about the M37 , many of us have fired a similar one while in the army/reserves and we have fond memories, cant say the same for a vz59 and besides there is a big difference between $4400 and $6000.

The one that would have a lineup, regardless of price, would be a new production semi auto Bren.....

SFRC booking order price for the M37 was $5299.95. Add tax and shipping, and its scaring six grand.

There was no need to prohibit by name. All examples were either full auto or converted auto. Most machineguns are not named prohibs.
