Folks,

I'm wondering if any of you can point me towards any good internet based design/operation references for belt feed mechanisms.

I'm quite familiar with the Minimi/C-9 system, and can access that for hands-on reference if I need to.

I'm doing some reading in Chinn tonite too.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks,

NS

Rob,

Do any of the .30 BMG manuals or .50 BMG manuals cover things well?

Alternatively, the FN-Mag might be interesting to look at. It's too new to be covered by Chinn.

problem with home made belts may be are they designed prior to 1945??? if NOT your stuck at 5 rnds

try 1919a4.com good info for .30 cal 1919 and some 50 ma duce info as well

Contact,

Point taken. Date of manufacture should not be an issue.

Doing some background research and mulling a project over. It will be a WHILE before I start this, but I'm getting my facts/ideas in order before I start anything.

Why try to re-invent the wheel. There are 10's of thousands of belt designs out there prior to 1945 and this will keep you out of caca. You will never sew a belt that will work efficiently. Belt pitch and cartridge retention is very important and I doubt if you have the equipment to sew or manufacture a belt that would work reliably. Chinn's books are good, but you will not be able to reverse engineer a feed mechanism from them.
