Beluga hunting

Marine Land in Niagra Ontario

This may sound sick, but I was just watching TV when a commercial for Marine Land & Game Farm came on. I was snickering when they were singing about how beautiful the Belugas were. My wife asked me what I was laughing at, and I told her about this thread. Well...she was shocked and asked "How you could eat such a beautiful creature?" I then said "Probably with some potatoes and a beer." Jeremy and OtoKiak, how do you prepare a meal with Beluga?

mmm ... chicken, I've only eaten qinalugaaq(beluga) blubber raw with soya sauce ... and once recently I tried it with Wassabi(sp) ... that hot sauce sheit ... some folks deep-fry apparently?!?! Most here just eat it in small chunks raw with soya sauce. ;)

Otokiak ...
Rankin Inlet, NU
CANADA

p.s. like I said I'm hoping to harpoon and shoot my 1st one this summer ... ;)

Some boil it. Do NOT microwave it. I tried, and it really didn't work. Best raw, cut in bite sized morsels.

A 30-30 is always nice. But of your two I'd say go with the 243. If you go 458 you may end up testing the CGN magnum challenge in awful chilly water.

I know a fellow (who is not a hunter) who tagged along on a beluga hunt a couple of years ago. I think it was in Pangratung (sp?). He said there were boats everywhere, and people shooting in all directions (remember that he does not hunt so his perspective may have been skewed) and he wondered how he survived the "hail" of bullets. Nevertheless everyone came out ok, and some fine whales were harvested.

No offense Jeremy but I kept seeing this thread and ignoring it cuz I just thought nobody actually hunts Beluga's. I thought it was a gag or something. :)

But shi-t!! Actually shooting a friggin' whale!! Sounds like wierd-cool!! :)

I'd say the .243 with the heaviest available bullets...

I'd do that hunt in a New York minute !

I had a friend who did that hunt about 40 years ago .. What a grand experience .. :) A heck of a lot more interesting than the annual white tail buck .. I would love to hunt a beluga whale ... I wonder what the jail(s) look(s) like in far off Nunavut ?? :)
