Reloading 55grn campros for an AR. Those who have tried both, which one do you prefer? And why? Either of these 2 easier to measure in an automatic powder drum or they're about the same?
Benchmark definitely metered better for me than Varget when using either a Dillon powder measure or a Harrell culver measure. With Benchmark most of my loads were +/- 0.15 grains of each other while Varget was roughly double that.
Benchmark seemed to shoot most accurately for me with lighter to moderate loads and groups opened up at near max loads. I ended up switching to H335 for my AR loads as it meters nearly perfectly, works well for ~55gr projectiles, and is generally more readily available in my area.
Not really answering your question, but if I may - For that rifle and bullet, get the ball powder it likes! Get the one that meters the best with your equip. CFE223 or TAC would be my first try.
Have shot both from a bolt gun and the results were better with Benchmark from the first rounds loaded. More accurate, throws similarly, burns cleaner.
For bulk FMJ projectiles from an AR, personally I probably wouldn't worry about it. Whatever is cheaper because the projectile and platform will be your bottleneck.
