Hi all,

I'm strongly considering getting a Benelli 828U with nickel receiver. My main concern is the durability of the aluminum receiver in a field environment (in and out of vehicles, walking through dense tree lines, etc.) Will the aluminum hold up or look like sh*t after a year?

Also, do people usually take guns with nice wood like this one in the field?

Thanks in advance,

It would be nice if they would give you some more details on the materials used. If it was something like a 6061 aluminum it would be very soft, and prone to damage. Something like a 7075 has the tensile strength equivalent of a higher carbon mild steel (1045?), and would hold up very well. Anodizing (Especially hard anodizing, which is what I suspect they do to these receivers) adds a lot of wear resistance as well.

My Beretta A400 Xplor Unico's aluminum receiver has held up great for the last few years. I don't beat it up, but I don't baby it either.

The only 828U I've played with was a loaner gun Stoeger provided to a small private hunting and shooting club. It had been there for a couple of months, used many times and not exactly given the best maintenance. It looked fine. I put a few rounds through it and it was okay except for the gruesome trigger pulls.
