Hello,

I bought a Benelli Supernova pistol grip tactical and was wondering if it was possible to get a barrel that would allow me to hunt Turkey...

I hear the barrels are expensive but if they are cheaper then another shotgun then I may just buy the barrel.

I searched the forum but did not find much, any help is appreciated!

Thanks

I have a bennelli and was told a long time ago that buying another barrel for it would be 3-5 hundred bucks. No idea if thats true, I can't even find any for sale.

I'd love an 18.5" barrel if you find any.

Benelli factory barrels are expensive and not all that common. To order one might take months.

Also does your gun have ghost ring sights? They are usually set up to work with the high front blade so may not provide an acceptable point of impact with a bead sighted barrel.

IIRC these guns are not threaded for choke tubes which is unfortunate. Were it otherwise you could just screw in a turkey choke.

For the cost, the potential wait and the unresolved question about the sights you might be better off with a shotgun more suitable for the purpose.

Yes goto a smith and pay the $100-150 to have it threaded plus the cost of chokes and you are set.

Interesting... Is there a possibility of threading the 18" barrel?

nope, its chrome lined. Doing so would chip the chrome and ruin the bbl. Theyre also one of the smallest O.D. bbls out there, too thin for remchokes which is the most popular. As for barrels, you can try stoeger but be ready for a looong wait. Ive found some for sale on US sites in the $450 range which is about what new Supernova's go for down there. Your best bet would be the EE but dont expect much. As for the sights, only tactical models are available with ghost rings, the rear sight is removable so you can use vent rib bbls if you do find one.

You won't necessarily ruin the barrel however the chrome lining needs to be honed out first before the barrel is threaded for choke tubes. Remchokes are not the only options and I've seen barrels a lot thinner than any Benelli fitted with choke tubes. The challenge will be whether the work can get done before the coming turkey season or whether Stoeger can get a replacement barrel to him in time. With the season just around the corner another gun might be the best alternative.

I've tried looking for barrels on the EE for my Super Nova 12 g - so I could hunt hogs and deer - but the cheapest thing to do was buy a used Remi 12 g Express Magnum, rifle barrelled shotgun. I got one last year at the Eganville gunshow for 400.00 used, in immacualte condition, with a red-dot sight and a weaver mount ! While I think that the Nova is an awesome shotgun - bagged me two turkeys some ducks and a grouse to date - for my purposes it was cheaper just to get a used rifled shotgun for the amount I'm going to use it.

I have the Benelli Super Nova Steady Grip (Turkey) and I love the set-up with the 24" bbl......I too have been looking for a rifled deer bbl for that gun and was quoted $600 - pretty much the same price of a dedicated deer gun set-up.

I did see that Cabelas sold some aftermarket bbls in one of their catalogues - I think the 20" rifled deer barrel (without camo) was about $259.00 That might be worth the road trip along;)

I was talking with Stoeger today. 24" vent rib barrel is $495. They have one in stock (#80212), but you'll have to order it from a retailer.

Went to Renfrew gun-show yesterday. No Benelli barrels but I did see a new type of shotgun - 12 g tactical type - and a Benelli .223 w/ pistol grip and a collapsable stock that was awesome ! Very pricy, but, but do they feel and look good ! One in .308 would be sweet..

Maybe we should start a support group for Bennelli shotgun barrel finders!

I am in the same boat as you guys. Have a camo Nova with a 28" barrel and polychoke with muzzle brake. Love it. Drops ducks on the fly with no problem. I would like to use it for deer or turkey as well. Guess I have a good excuse to use for the wife to justify a couple of new shotguns. muhahaha

Benneli Barrels

Years ago I bought a Benneli Nova shotgun with a 3 1/2 inch chamber. It is a great duck gun, but I realized I wanted something shorter as well.

That is went I found out how difficult and expensive it was to buy another barrel for the Nova.

So I just bought another Benneli with a short barrel. It was a lot easier.

Cheers,

B

Its about $700 for a rifled barrel for my SBE2, so I'll be picking up another gun for deer. Maybe an 870.
But I love shooting my Benelli. Its brought down lots of ducks, geese, turkeys. And some deer with rifled slugs.
