Benelli M2 Entry? Tiny Wifey

I still think she'd be better off with a PCC like a Beretta CX4 or Ruger PC.

I have an XDM 9mm in a quick safe at the night stand.
But people miss with handguns often.
A 12 will produce a significantly larger hit zone

Inside house ranges wont give you that much spread out of a shotgun. Even a 14" barrel takes 15 yards to open up decently. Most of the shots taken inside a house will produce a fist size hole maybe...

I would suggest a PCC for her.

Combine a good dog with whatever gun you decide....dog will buy her time to get to the gun. As for guns, as important as it to consider stopping power and over penetration she will never use it or want go to practice with it if she is intimidated by it. My wife will not touch a 12 gauge but has asked me on her own to shoot handgun.

Has she even fired a 12 gauge before, let alone using buckshot?

Yeah this seems a bit ridiculous. Some type of fantasy regarding petite woman and a Benelli combat shotgun at play here.

The obvious answer here is a pistol. My wife is 12lbs lighter and 3” shorter than OPs and the thought of her reaching in the safe for my M4 in her pyjamas gets my blood flowing, but it doesn’t inspire confidence.

My wife will grab a gen4 G19 MOS w/RMR and Inforce APLc. Yeah shotguns are great for home defence but that’s only when someone can comfortably operate it.

If you can’t think of a way to store a pistol responsibly, legally and most importantly quick to access then you aren’t being imaginative enough.

Prohibited is prohibited ! The M1 entryguns have 14 inch barrels ! What is the point you’re trying to make ? I’ve been wrapped up in gun laws over 50 years . (Before John Hipwell even thought of opening his store we were shooting from foxholes on his farm )

Umm you’re the one who stated the M2 entry would be prohibited, but it’s not. You also expressed confusion as to why the M1 entry is prohibited if the M4 entry is restricted. Sorry for offering the correct explanation.

M1 super 90 entry is prohibited by name, not due to barrel length.

I believe that's correct, Benelli brought in the "Sporting Special" which is basically an M1 with the 18.5" barrel, and ghost ring sights. However I don't think it was ever offered in a 14" version. No mag extension on the Sporting Special either.

Maybe the Remington R12 is an option with a 14" barrel?

Apparently the police don't think that the M2 is a variant of the M1. The M1 is prohib regardless of barrel length, the M2 isn't prohib at all, the Beretta version of the M3 isn't prohib, so it must not meet the "definition" of variant either. The M4 is also not a "variant" of the M1 (which makes sense - egad!) Prohib by name, and prohib by barrel length are 2 different things - prohib by name exists (as we can all see) and prohib by barrel length, well, just doesn't exist unless it's a pistol, these are not pistols. Otherwise the "entry" M4 would be illegal, as would the R12 - 14 inch, they aren't prohib, they're restricted.

OP - take a look at the Beretta 1301, they're amazingly light and have quite mild recoil.

Also worth considering is that 14" barrelled shotgun are obnoxiously loud and blasty in an outdoor setting, indoors touching a round off would be stunning even with earmuffs on.

let alone unlocked a safe, loaded one and been In the state of mind to id and engage targets without becoming one in tight quarters out of a dead sleep at 2 am? Ever hear a shotgun go off inside a house, it's kinda eye opening to say the least!

M2 entry as in 14 inch barrel ? M1 super 90 entry 14” is prohibited so M2 is going to suffer the same fate I am sure . M4 entry is restricted so why isn’t the M1 ? Stupidity !

The M1S90 is prohibited by name with the exception of the Field model.

M2S90 doesn't fall under the same restrictions so you'd just have it being restricted with the Entry model.

*edit* I should note, that an M1 Field model that's converted to Tactical configuration is a-okay, so...do with that what you will.

A couple thoughts. Most Benelli's have a long LOP. A big consideration for a small framed shooter being a big hurdle to overcome. A proper fighting stance is difficult to get into with an overly long lop for your height and that translates into slower follow ups, increased felt recoil and an ergonomic challenge to overcome for each shot. Another consideration is the M2 is not known to be overly reliable with anything but full power magnum loads. For HD and a light shooter I'd look to reduced recoil loads. At short distance they often outperform mag loads in penetration but even more important is the very light recoil and tame blast/flash. Rem managed recoil slugs are very soft shooters with their 00B being even softer. Both will cleanly level a sh!trat. I've shot many of both from short 12 ga and use them to introduce girls to the shotgun. For those reasons I would personally choose a short pump. The training issue is a training issue. There's no getting around it, she needs to train. Every gun requires training to get proficient with, type doesn't matter. Don't worry about short stroking. Do short stroke malfunction drills and train to cycle the action properly. Train all the bullsh!t out because every platform will let you fu(k yourself. Dummy rounds at home, cases of cheap birdshot for function drills on the range, and the actual load used for defense for on target training. Taking the shot is on you. So make sure you're running on training not panicked desperation. Only one of those has consistent outcomes. Just my thoughts.
