Benelli M2 Tactical

Here's a question:

For someone with an M2 fields version. Am I better served getting a tactical barrel and the receiver drilled and tapped for the iron sights, or picking up an M4 in the long run?

IMO the M2 even with a 21-24" barrel swings as well or better than many longer barreled shotguns, you could probably do everything pretty well with a Field in that length range instead of buying a second barrel that will cost a $1000.

The Field model with a 21-24" barrel with bead or vent rib mounted rifle sights is the favorite setup of the 3 gun crowd, in 21" guise its not all that much longer than the Tavtical model either.

That's good info... I already have the 28" on my SG. It's my first shotgun but frankly I don't see how any other gun could swing or fit better.

My only issue related to this thread is that when shouldering the gun and trying getting in a stance where you would be in a HD or "Tactical" scenario, the long barrel becomes cumbersome. Also, the recoil even on trap loads is not favoured by the wife, so looking at the M4 fits these bills, but not my pocketbook...

I don't find the M4 to be all that soft shooting for a gas operated shotgun, I'd put it roughly halfway between an inertial gun and a typical gas gun. Anyway, when it comes to women and shotguns, fit is more important than the raw level of recoil, with things like LOP and foreend reach being critical.

Those 14 3/8" stocks that Benelli ships with most of their shotguns is too long for tactical purposes for many men let alone women, a lot of times you see women leaning way back when they shoot because of an overly long stock, which of course exaggerates the effect of recoil.

I think the M2 is in some ways a better shotgun than the M4 but it lacks the latter's presentation and "mojo", giving the impression that it's cheaper than its pricetag.

I like my M2's mojo. It has smooth lines and elegance unlike its little brother.

They way I see it "as I owned both"

M2- Sporting shotgun/Combat shotgun
M4- Combat shotgun that could be used for hunting

If I went into battle M4 wins hands down, But for a all around gun M2 cant be beat!

SO do you get a secondary barrel / stock setup for the M2, or save up for the M4?

Alternatively, without too much thread hi-jacking, does the Supernova 14" with telescoping stock fit the bill here?
