Benelli M2 vs. Super Black Eagle 2

Folks,

I'm at a crossroads ....
I've owned several 12 gauge shotguns over my time mainly pumps and break actions and a Remington 1100 and an 11-87
I'm sudenly moving up a notch and looking at another semi auto
I'm comparing the Benelli M2 with the SBE 2. with 26 '' barrel
Other than the M2 only being limited to 3'' only, the barrel / to receiver configuration being a little different and a difference in price of almost $400.00
Is there a big difference between the 2 shotguns as they relate to functionallity, reliability, ???

The weight is practically the same as is
the look, barrel lenght , action style
My main uses would be for waterfowl and turkey huntng

I've made the decision to go with the M2 and leave the super mag behind. THank you for all of your comments

Any first hand experiances out there with these Benelli models ?
Any of your constructive comments would be helpful
I've handled both but not fired either one

Trying to make up my mind on which one might be best for me

Denis

I own a Benelli M2 with a 24" barrel. I use it for turkey & waterfowl with 3" loads and have shot skeet and trap with it using 2.75" target loads. It's functioned reliably with everything I've fed it. Unless you need the 3.5" for something,I'd go with the M2 and spend the money you save on shells. I know 2 guys with the SBE 2 and both love their guns as well. I don't need to shoot 3.5" shells so the M2 works for me. Cheers Bac4

You've pretty much listed the differences. 3 vs 3.5". I would say the m2 is a bit lighter. the receivers on both are different like you mentioned. The m2 almost looks like an 870 receiver whereas the sbe2 has its own look.

I will say my brother shot a sbe2 for two seasons and switched to an m2 this season and has no regrets.

If 3.5 isn't a necessary for you Id go with the m2 and save some dough. The inertia systems are practically the same and both will be reliable and great guns.

I say there is a great deal of comfort to be had in being able to fire any 12 gauge ammunition available. The tradeoff to be able to fire 3.5" is a slightly larger action and .1 or .2 pounds difference - well worth it for the flexibility in its use.

both guns use the same acton design and lock-up system with the rotating lugs into the barrel. The MAJOR difference is the receiver! The SBE has the receiver built into the barrel and exchanges with barrel changes. This is excellent for those using slug barrels and turkey barrels that have scopes mounted. I have both guns and enjoy the SBE design for the switch up ability and maximized accuracy for a slug platform. KEEP THE LUG OPENINGS CLEAN IN THE CHAMBER OF THE BARREL
