I have one, but I can only get 4 shells in the tube.(4+1)
I don't have a manual and I saw a ad that its capacity is 5+1
Any help with this would be great.

I believe you have to remove the magazine spring retainer in order to get a 5th shell into either version of the M4.

When I was trying to fit the advertised 7 in my old 590A1 I noticed some shells are slightly longer than others, depending on manufacturer, so I could only fit 6 federal estate in the tube, but could fit 7 S&B shells. The 2 3/4 measurement is an after fired length.

I tried what you suggested, only helped a little bit, it still won't allow you to load 5 rounds.
Note right now only 3/4 of the fifth round will slide into the magazine tube.(2 3/4 shells)

What brand of shells are you using?

Some are considerably longer than others.

Federal Estates and they measure 2 7/16" unfired

Are they roll crimped? Those usually run quite a bit longer unfired.

They only shells I have immediate access to right now are Fiocchi 2 3/4" buck, which are only 2 1/4" unfired, that's likely your problem right there.

870P thank you for your very helpful info. So it is a ammo problem and not firearm related.

Gadget does Benelli M 4 14" 5 + 1 make any reference to 2 3/4 or 3 inch shells. Because the Benelli M 4 18 is referenced to 3" for loading capacity I believe.

My experience is that usually it would indicate 5x3"

I owned a Benelli M4 in 14'' configuration before, It hold 5 rounds in the magazine. It could has mentionned earlier the spring reteiner that need to be pushout a little or a aftermarket follower. If the follower is to thick you get less space in the tube.

Interesting point about the follower, but I did remove the retainer, it didn't make a difference
But will look at the follower to see if that address my issue

Yeah it depends on the shell length, my 18.5" will hold 5 standard crimped 2-3/4" shells with the factory faux extension. But if you use slugs with a roll crimp you can't get the 5th in there.

With that said, since the RCMP stated the length is based on the longest of the listed shells it can hold, you can certainly have 5 3" shells too. (I got a +1 extension on mine now)

For the 14" model, I think your solution of the Supernova extension would work just fine to get some more ammo flexibility!
