Hey Guys,

I am not really a shotgun guy, I have very limited experience with them. I decided to get myself a Benelli M4. Uptil now most of my shotgun experience was on a Regular Mossberg 500

Does anyone know what kind of barrel is it? I assume its cylinder so I can shoot any kind of shot or slug?

It came with a choke, but it is not marked. Does anyone know what kind of choke the M4 comes with and what kind of shot can I shoot with it installed in the barrel.

And my final question is, I noticed the barrel gets alot thicker towards the end. My mossberg 500 almost the same thickness throughout. Is it normal for the barrel to get thicker towards the muzzle end? I made a picture to help explain what I am talking about. Hopefully my gun doesn't have any issue.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Your gun is normal.

Most M4's shipped with a MOD choke. Should have 3 'slots' if I'm not mistaken. You can shoot slugs no problem.

Yes the barrel profile looks correct.

Welcome to the club. It's a bit nicer your Mossberg. :) Look into the field stock, oversized safety, CH, bolt release... by rights they SHOULD come stock with that stuff! :)

Do you know where I can get those upgraded parts like CH, Safety, Stock etc?

I would highly recommend S&J Hardware. Don't forget the mag extension.

Yes on the S and J, and the GG and G bolt release is nice if you can find one. GG and G things are usually in stock on brownells. I like the factory stock personally.

Benelli recommends only shooting slugs through improved cylinder (IIII) and cylinder (IIIII), its right in their FAQ. chokes are cheap and it doesnt hurt to buy a couple. Some people say you can shoot slugs thru modified (III) but I am just giving you something to refer to. Should be marked on the top edge in notches as stated before.

I am saving up to buy another eventually. Bought one a while ago and unfortunately had to sell it when times were tough. I like to say the M4 is the most fun you can have with your pants on, possibly with them off as well. :) Mine had a Mod choke and many a slug sailed through it just fine, but I think you can find a cylinder one pretty easy. I myself love the collapsible stock, try it for a while before you decide to ditch it.

You've got a Benelli M4 and an FDE Emerson CQC7 (plain blade, my fav) - how on earth could you possibly need help? LOL.

The Brits run that gun with the Shield CQC mini red dot, nice set up.

Your M4 barrel gets bigger toward the end ?

Oh oh, you got one of them faulty releases that goes from a 12 ga. to an 11 ga. Didn't hear about that recall ? I'd be happy to take it off your hands at a huge discount considering it's faulty :):p

field stock (a must in my books - ordered mine from Brownells) and oversized charging handle for sure. Mine wears a Burris Fast Fire III 8MOA dot and has never had an issue. Great guns, and built like a tank. Loaded with buck and always with us camping.
