Hey guys,

Took the Benelli M4 out this morning against a lone crow in the back yard.

Benelli 1
Crow 0

Can't wait for more! I got some bacon sitting in the box of the truck, gonna use that as crow bait once it gets a little nicer :D

ps. I hate crows.

Really? I would think 7 1/2s would be too light... will have to try that tomorrow, as I bought 2 /25 boxes @LeBaron today, for 6.99 a box. ENIGMATIC1, I hear you about yoyu hate for crows. Every year they eat my corn, so out comes Dads old Stevens and #5s... BOOM...caw.
Hope you have as much fun as I do with crows.

Try a trap-load of #7.5 next time, its dynamite out to 50 yards on the corvids! (Dropped a pair yesterday, no pics though)

I wouldnt think that 7 1/2s work out to 50 yards? I normally use #5s. Will haves to try 7.5s tomorow. Picked up 2 boxes of 25 Winchester super sport target loads today at LeBaron for 6.99 a box, so lots of shells to shoot em up with.:50cal:;)

50 yards with #7.5 is no problem, crows are quite small under those feathers and very fragile.. I'm using an 870 with 26" barrel and modified choke. Pattern your Benelli and see what it tells you. ;)

Check out crowbusters.com for some great tips and read the forum!
Cheers

are people just allowed to take out their gun to shoot crows like that on their backyard? Cause if we are... the crows in my yard got something new to fear.

hehe. If you live in the country, then you are most likely allowed to.

I guess I have to say, check with your municipal bylaws blah blah.

What shot size is safe (against the paint and sheet metal of your box)?

haha.

Smart a$$ :p

I am letting it just sit there and rot. I figure if they like the rotting meat on the side of the road, then they will like rotting bacon as well.

When the nice day comes, I will take the bacon out of the box, and packaging, and tie it to a pole. Just too high for the crows to get at easily. Meanwhile I will be waiting, with beer and sunflower seeds, hidden away somewhere hehe :D

I just started, but so far I am having a blast! I hate the incessant cawing. Especially in the morning.

I will definitely have to check that site out! I too think that 7.5 would be too light as well, but I will definitely give it a shot.

#4 at around 3 yards away sure does a number on them anyways... hehe

I don't know if that 7.5 shot would be good for the Ravens we have here in Fort Mac. They are as big as the eagles up here and tough to boot. Only bad thing is they are illegal to shoot in AB and SK. Plus where are the pics?

Humm, 2 years ago I've tried that size of shot (all that I had at the moment) with cylinder choke (forgot the modified at home) through my own M4. Big crows too!

Resumé of the engagement:

1st one downed at aprox 30 yards in mid-air. My first kill

2nd one shot at about the same distance...thrice! It didn't go down, but my buddy and I heard a crow for a few minutes, agonizing I suppose.

Note to self at the moment: Bring #5 shot next time.

You know, I might be able to still go take a pic of him. In 3 pieces. If I remember tomorrow, I will go look.

Ravens are illegal to shoot in AB and SK?? Who the hell made that law?

Apparently in MB we have a yearly crow/blackbird hunt. Got the article in my room, but if anyone has details here, let me know :)

Hmmm... That 7.5 isn't sounding entirely conclusive.

I heart Benelli M4.

Yeah, the best is after an early morning deer hunt, and 00 Buck at the buggers... or 303 British:evil: . On my farm we shoot 2 for a specific purpose, and old Indian(Native Canadian, I can say that cause my grampa is) trick to keep them out of the corn- after shooting them, we tie them to a steel pole at either end of the 8 acre field, and that keeps them away for about a month... by then I will have shot a few more that are just passing by, and hang them up too.
#4 @ 3 yards?:puke: that would shred them-the more pieces the merrier!
for the high up ones or in trees, my dads old stevens has a cylinder bore choke in it, so #2s are what I use, but most of the time is 5s. I rained yesterday here in Ottawa, and will do so for the rest of the week, so I haven't shot any 7.5s yet:( oh well, always another day...
