I have been looking at a Benelli MR-1 mainly because I'm a sucker for non-restricted black rifles (already have two AR-180Bs, an SL8, an XCR-L and 2 858s - yeah, I know it's technically a red rifle but I've pimped them out with all black furniture).

I think the Benelli has some potential with a little tweaking. Anyone have any experience with them or can comment on accuracy, reliability, possible mods like cutting down the barrel from 20" to 18.6", threading for a FH/brake, etc.

Thanks.

Mine has been reliable with both the OEM mag as well as my LARs. It runs very clean. It shoots 2-3" with bulk (Fiochi) 55 grain ball off the bench. I have a Redfield 2x7 on it but I have high see through rings that made for a crappy cheek weld. This plus the fact that I don't handload for .223 may account for some of the 5hitty accuracy.

Overall I like it. It is well made and reliable and NON-RESTRICTED.

Thanks for the reply. I can't believe there has only been one response. There must be more MR1s out there than that.

I have only had my MR1 for a few months but I like it a lot. Its more accurate than I am, so far. Its built like a Swiss watch. It takes LAR15 mags as geo mentioned. Mine came with a cheek pad on the pistol grip stock, so the cheek wield is pretty ok for me.

A fellow on here by the name of Caramel has got some great accuracy results out of his.

The first time I cleaned it was frustrating but a no brainier after. The best feature of the MR1 is that its tons of fun.

And hey that's a nice collection that you have!

Do a search for both Caramel and MR1. He has his MR1 dialed in and dancing and has some excellent posts on its performance.

When I get back to Canada (in 29 days 10 hours and 32 minutes) the first purchase will be an MR1. It will sit nicely beside the Benelli M4 I picked up on the EE last week. I was going to get a SAN but I figured why not own the Argo brothers for the same price as a Swiss Arms. Swiss later, Benelli now.

If it's not a bother, could you please post a picture of that cheek rest on your MR-1 stock? I tried an Eagle Creek cheek rest but the MR-1 stock was too narrow.

The downsloping stock is terrible for me, not to mention it looks fugly, but maybe that's just me.
Still, I'm not the only one unhappy with it. I am not sure what Benelli was thinking with this stock.

It's not the easiest gun I've had to disassemble and reassemble. It's well made and accurate. I'm not sure I'd buy it again if I had to do it all over again, or at the very least I'd wait for a Comfortech stock to become available for it, as apparently will happen this year.

Hey absolutely no bother but I am stuck in the Middle East at the moment. Far far away from my MR1. I don't even have a photo here to post. Sorry. I wont be home for a few weeks yes but as soon as I get home, if you are still interested, I would post this for you no problem. I didn't do it personally, I bought it on EE with the cheek rest. But it works well for me.
