Benelli MR-1

Well I did the dirty deed and have bought an MR-1 with pistol grip and collapsible stock. I pick it up next week hopefuilly and let you know my impressions of this beast. Thanks for all the info.

I've been interested in picking up an MR1 as my next purchase as well. I wouldn't be worried about the .223 stamp, this is common for the European market as many countries do not allow citizens to own a firearm in a "military caliber" lol

how do you guys that got the mr1 like it? more specifically with the collapsible stock.
i really want it, and have been eyeing it for a year but just cant decide on it. i wish someone at my club had 1 i could try.

The only issue I had was using Win white box 45 gr. HPs in an XCR mag, the flat meplate would pile drive into the tapered ring that guides rds into the chamber causing an FTF. Switched to spire point ammo and havent had a single hiccup since. The reliability is incredible, something much more expensive rifles struggle to match. Its nicely balanced and points well, recoil is very mild. Its nice and lightweight too. That being said the controls are not very user friendly. Mag changes can still be done fairly quick but nothing like an AR or even a VZ. The stock has alot of drop, along with the fixed rear sight makes mounting magnified optics a challenge. A Bushnell TRS-25 will lower 1/3 cowitness the irons but thats about it. Cheek weld will suffer with any optics, a cheek riser is a good investment. I dont know what the hell Benelli does to those barrels but Ive never seen a thin barrel hold POI and groups together with tons of heat like the MR1. Copper fouling is also incredibly minimal. The gas system is basically self cleaning and self adjusting to any load Ive tried. Quality is what you get with the MR1, its a rifle you can shoot and shoot and shoot until you run out of ammo without worrying about stoppages or POI/group shifts due to barrel heat, or even cleaning the damn thing after every range trip. It will not keep up with an AR, XCR or VZ on a course, or get all dolled up in koolaid so pick your use then pick your rifle. This one doesnt do it all.

I went with see thru rings and a 2x7 scope on mine. I am going to get a cheek pad for it. I just need to find the time to get over to Dave's Surplus to find one that fits my collapsible stock.

Picked up the MR-1 on Sat. Bought a Vortex Viper PST 2.5 X 10. Took it out on Sunday. Love the gun. Love the scope. Once sighted in, deadly groups at 100 yards. Love this set up. Thanks to all of you for the info. Will try and post pictures soon.
