I am thinking about shortening the barrel on my Benelli MR1 to the legal limit 18.5".

I would like to have the barrel threaded and a short flash hider screwed on.

Is this possible on the MR1?

Can anyone suggest a short (so it doesn't add a lot of length to the barrel) yet effective flash hider?

Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

Yes it is possible. There was a nutter who did it. He may have used Heron. Just change the search date (I'm guessing six months) when you search ;) The key is to make sure that the FH fits through the fore-end cap. Interesting thing is, the MR1 manual shows a FH in the diagram of the takedown....

It's a 20" NR. I'm planning on doing some night shooting with it using a night vision monocular so I want a FH that cuts down the muzzle flash.

The barrel diameter is very thin, that may have a bit of impact on the flash hider that you choose. I find the MR1 to be "long feeling". I think that cutting 1.5" inches off that thing would be a good thing. Tacking on a flash hider would just lengthen it again. I can appreciate the flash hiding characteristics if you have a place to legally shoot at night though.

Agreed, that is why I'd like the shortest FH that would work.

There's the exact gun you're talking about for sale on the EE in the black rifle section.
