My Benelli MR1 has a raised crown which I didn't notice until now... Is this normal or has something happened?

Nope, not normal. Just checked mine.
Great... Not the reply I was hoping for but it was the one I was expecting. Thanks for double checking for me! I was 95% sure it wasn't like that when I bought it but didn't want to get excited over nothing.

Anyone have any idea of who to contact in Ontario about it? I can look it up but in the past found that forum members sometimes know how to skip the lineup so to speak.

Rifles only a little over a year old but I still have the sales receipt in my files. Just hate dealing with returns and crap with firearms. Some go smooth, some not so much.

Thanks,
Zen

was it purchased like that?, or is it something you discovered after putting a few down the pipe.
I'm 95% sure it wasn't like that when I bought it. I would have noticed at least the first time I cleaned it.

As it's a 1/2" barrel and that lip is so small I might have over looked it once or twice but I've had this for just over a year so I doubt it. I'm less that 3000 rounds but might be around 1500. Other than the odd FTE it's been fine. I was planning to do a few groups with it Monday but now I'm concerned, these are supposed to be chrome lined.

At the moment I'm more concerned with how/why this happened. I was already planning on testing 5 round groups next week for another member so now I'll see if anythings changed with the accuracy. I'm doing an early cleaning on it so I can check for any other issues but so far so good.

If I knew a local smith and the price I'd consider either re-crowning or crowning and threading. But I'll worry about that after I hear from Benelli, or Stoeger as they deal with Canadian warranty issues.

I am 100% sure it was like that when you bought it. That's a burr left from the chamfer they put on the muzzle at the factory. Is that normal for a $2000 rifle? No. Is that an oversight from the QC and manufacturing department? Absolutely. However, as long as the chamfer itself is done right and is even and equal all around, the burr on the periphery is unlikely to affect anything.

For an SKS or M305, sure. For my MR1, not so much. I've never done it before. In over 25 years of owning firearms and 12 rifles this is a first for me.

Because it starts with a "B" ? If there's a chance that warranty will cover it, then fine. Otherwise, a barrel is a barrel. It's not a target rifle.
