My Benelli MR1 has a raised crown which I didn't notice until now... Is this normal or has something happened?

Great... Not the reply I was hoping for but it was the one I was expecting. Thanks for double checking for me! I was 95% sure it wasn't like that when I bought it but didn't want to get excited over nothing.Nope, not normal. Just checked mine.
take it to a smith and get it recrowned probably less hassle then sending it in.
Or if it shoots OK and is otherwise OK, cut the barrel to 18.5" and have it threaded for a flash hider.

I'm 95% sure it wasn't like that when I bought it. I would have noticed at least the first time I cleaned it.was it purchased like that?, or is it something you discovered after putting a few down the pipe.
That's my plan if and when I pick one up.
Cheers D
I don't know any and if I recall right I only have two or three in the GTA. What would it cost if I did find someone local?take it to a smith and get it recrowned probably less hassle then sending it in.

For an SKS or M305, sure. For my MR1, not so much. I've never done it before. In over 25 years of owning firearms and 12 rifles this is a first for me.Brass screw and lapping compound.

As it's a 1/2" barrel and that lip is so small I might have over looked it once or twice but I've had this for just over a year so I doubt it. I'm less that 3000 rounds but might be around 1500. Other than the odd FTE it's been fine. I was planning to do a few groups with it Monday but now I'm concerned, these are supposed to be chrome lined.
