Benelli Nova or Supernova?

I am going to get either a nova or Super nova... the difference is about a hundred bucks, larger trigger gaurd, shim kit, recoil reducer and the avaliblity to change stocks for the Supernova.

Does the recoil reducer help a lot more than the plain pad on the Nova...or is it managable with 3" and 3 1/2" shells?

If you had to choose what would you go with?

I own the Nova. There's no doubt that it's a more superior quality pump than 99% of the others. (Mine came with a shim kit also)
That being said, mine kicks very hard with turkey and goose loads compared to most semis. (as any lightweight pump, bolt or break action will recoil the same)

I haven't tried the Super Nova yet but if you're using mainly heavy loads then it's worth the extra money. When I bought mine the super Nova wasn't available here yet or I would have bought it instead.

Also the recoil reducer in the SN is built into the stock which is supposed to flex to a certain degree and absorb some recoil.

i owned a nova and switched to a supernova tactical (for the pistol grip) they are both great shotguns and recoil is pretty much the same these are light weight polymer receiver but very slick and durable.

Don't have either, but I've compared the SBE and SBE II. The larger trigger gaurd is nice for gloves. The comfortech stock is also a little bonus, but I don't think it does as much as they advertise. If the SuperNova stock fits you good than shims wouldn't matter.
Personally, I'd go with the Super Nova. More technology for $100. More Stock options for best fit.

Are you sure yours came with shim kit? Novas do not come with shim kits as the stocks are only one piece and always have been. There is no way to adjust the Novas with shims. Are you sure you don't have the Super?

Wife has a Nova in 20ga, beautiful gun, nice and light, great finish, but it kicks the crap out of me worse than my SX2 with 3.5". It's embarrassing to say, but it's a fricken mule with turkey or waterfowl loads.

Having said that, while I have never fired the Super Nova, if I were to buy a pump in 12ga, that would be it over the Nova to take advantage of the recoil reducing doohickeys.
