Anyone own a 300 win mag semi in this rifle, and if so, how do you like it compared to other rifles. I'm going to buy one I think, just want to know how others feel.

I own a wood R1 in 300 Win Mag. I love the gun, fairly light for calibre, accurate, reliable. A lot of fun. These are top notch autoloaders

I had one for a few years and sold it only because I found 300 Win mag to be overkill for our small Island deer. If it was in .308 I probably would have never sold it.

I found the rifle to be brilliant in design, very easy to maintain, and had wonderful ergonomics for me.

It was very accurate in spite of the myth of semis not being so.
Recoil was on par with a mild .270.

I did find that the mag held two rounds and one in the chamber.
Not three in the mag.

IMHO the Browning is a poor copy of the Benelli.

My mag holds three, and one in the chamber. According to Benellis website this is correct. Maybe you had a faulty mag,

I found my 300 win mag to be very picking on what bullets it liked. I had a BAR in 30-06 before this that was more accurate then my Benelli. But the Benelli was a lot easier to break down and clean. I ended up going back to a bolt rifle.

Only seen one at the range, it was a 300 WN and it was a dog. The owner was pissed, it wouldn't group with anything. No personal experience here just what I saw with one rifle. he had sevberal different factory loads and it wasn't his first trip out with it. Any new gun could be a lemon just thought I'd pass it along, no slamming them just an observation.

More R1 experience???

I'm looking at this as my one rifle (in 300WM) to replace the M305 before I dump any money into the M305. If anyone else owns or has experience with the R1 please post. Thanks.

Benelli doesn't make junk, but they ain't cheap. Epp's wants $1667.80 for one in .300 Mag.
I'd re-think the .300 Mag. No game in North America needs a magnum of any kind and magnums aren't fun nor cheap to shoot on a range.
"...dump any money into the M305..." Wouldn't do that either, if it shoots well enough. Depends on what you want any rifle for, of course.

Basic hunting ammo is $25/20 for 300WM, and recoil with a semi is significantly reduced (from experience). 308 has some limitations in rear quartering shots and longer range w/heavier bullets that would be handily rectified by the 300WM. The M305 is heavier and significantly less accurate in it's stock form than the R1. Once modified, most of those shortcomings could be overcome at a similar cost, but still only in 308. Off a decent rest I can shoot more accurately than my M305 can. I would like to have confidence that my rifle was better than me at long range. Yes, I am faced with the regular possibility of 400+ yard shots and have the skill to make them under the right conditions and also the judgement to decide when the conditions are not right.

I just dropped my buddys r1(300wm)off at the store where he bought it for the gun smith to look at,shoots both 165 and 180"s into 8-10 inch groups. They were good about it,said if it couldnt be fixed there they would send it out,so at least now it doesnt have to be used as a paper wieght.
