Did break in my new Benelli R1 338 mag, all i can say is WOW... This is as reliable as my M4, recoil is VERY moderate, kind of is this a 308 or what, this Conforteck stock is awsome, after zeroing the scope, went for group and on the second box i went for a 5 rounds group, looking great and after a cooling period, went for two mags (10 rounds ) of semi fast shooting from the bag, this rifle with reloads will be MOA...
The 10 shots groups made a 1.5 MOA cluster @ 100 metres with 250 gr Corelockts... Benelli you make good rifles...JP.

Congrats! :)

I know the 300 win mag R1 I used to have was probably the best engineered and easiest to clean semi I have ever used.
The 300 mag recoils was around the level a .270 in my R1.

It's really what surprised me the most, this system Comforteck is working perfectly, plus the fact of the semi, i am gonna order a Comforteck stock for one of my Benelli M4... JP.

I know it's a bit of a surprise at first.

Before the Benelli I had tried a 300 mag and a 300 weatherby mag bolt action and found them to be teeth rattling unpleasant experiences which is not something I would want in a hunting rifle.

My wife even started to choose my Argo as her preffered plinker...which got expensive fast lol. :) But she loved to ring the 300 yard gong so much it was hard to say no to her. :)

I also found the groupings didn't open up much on mine as the barrel got warmer. There might be something to these cryo tempered barrels after all.

I'm glad to see these are still being made.

Just secured 200 bullets Barnes TSX BT 225 gr with a BC of .514, set of dies and mag primers plus 2 pounds of IMR-4350, for starter in that caliber... JP.

Since it's only gonna serve for hunting purpose, i had one BNIB 6500 1.25X8X32 left on the half dozen i bought last fall so this scope as i experienced yesterday is a perfect match for it... JP.

I'm happy with my R1's.

Hard to go back to other stuff after handling them a bit.

2 mags is 10 rounds? Are they 4 round mags +1 in the pipe? My 06's are 4 round mags, and I though the bigger cals only held 3?

That's another thing I love about this design... Plenty of room for big scopes without the need for crazy high scope rings and no bolt or hammer to deal with.

I had a Bushnell Banner 6x18x50 on mine that came with the rifle. I still have the scope but it's a little big for the handy rifles I have. ;) :)

does your rifle shoot left of center, then right of center, depending on how many rounds there are in the mag? Both my R1's do that consistently.

That sounds very odd...mine never did that.
Mechanically I can't see how this is possible.

But just in case try loading one round in the chamber at a time and see if that makes a difference.

Also could it be your scope?
Are you using the same scope on both rifles?

On the 40 first rounds, didnt noticed that at all, but calum advice is a good one, both my mag always position the first round at the same place in the mag, like said could be scope shifting... JP.

If I load one at a time with the mag empty is shoots a nice moa group.

Both rifles have Leupold VX3's, mounted with Leuopld PRW rings on the factory base. Everything is tight. Will be putting a brand new scope on the one I always use in the next few weeks.

I know it sounds strange and I don't understand whats happening, but it is consistent. Odd number of rounds in the mag it shoots left a bit (1"), even number, right a bit (1"). Nothing in the mag or no mag it shoots straight. My 2 MR1's seem to do it too but not as bad, but I haven't spend enough time with them to know for sure yet.

Does the 338 have a 3 or 4 round mag?
