Benelli R1 & Leupold

270win is not legal for hunting in S.Ontario....its .277

here we go again... legal advice from people with no clue to what their actually talking about...

Ryanloco hit it on the head... Bulllet dia is irrelevant, but thanks for coming out.

no advise is better than bad advice.

Win, and 444, its not the same gun.

i dont understand that caliber rule.

a 270 is gonna go a helluva lot farther then a 45/70, 30-30, (Can you use 30-30s?) 375H&H....

I know Mike, but i think the rule was designed back when nearly everyone was hunting with some sort of Milsurp, and this limited guys from flailing around FMJ's close to major cities...
this is how it was explained to me (though might be incorrect).
Grnhawg uses a 375 H&H for dirtpigs, so why cant I.... :D :D:D:D:D:D

I was speaking of groove diameter for the .270win which is - .277 in. or 7.0mm and is referred as caliber in many european countries.

Did I miss Ontario moving to europe? Bore dia is measured by the bore, not groove dia which is measured by the grooves...

From the Ontario regulation summary.

You may not use a rifle of greater calibre than .275, except a
flintlock or percussion cap muzzle-loading gun, for hunting
small game in the counties of: Brant, Elgin, Essex, Huron,
Lambton, Middlesex, Northumberland, Oxford, Perth and
Wellington and the regional municipalities of
Chatham/Kent, Durham, Haldimand-Norfolk, Halton,
Hamilton-Wentworth, Niagara, Peel, Waterloo and York
and the City of Toronto.
Bore or calibre is measured land to land both here and in Europe and is why the .270 Winchester is legal within the caliber limits because the regulation specifically refers to calibre.

The .270 Winchester in a metric designation would be 6.8X63mm.

Had to bring this back from the dead.

I just picked up my Benelli R1 .30-06 walnut stock yesterday.

I researched this gun to death I read more reviews about ####ty accuracy then positive ones thats for sure but I have a few friends who own them and love them so I went ahead with the purchase.

I am so glad I bought this gun it was a breeze to sight in the Bushnell 3200 3-9x40mm. Fit and finish is great I would say better then the BAR for sure weight is awsome super light I can carry it for ever. I herd some stuff about fouling after only a few shots so I took it appart after 20 shots and it was nice and clean comparied to the stories on the net.

I did a quick bore sight then setup at 50yds was low and right at 50yds. I adjusted it dead center on the target with 2 more shots then put 3 shots through the same hole at 50yds off the bench.

Moved out to 100yds I took one shot it was low but centered after I adjusted I put 3 shots dead center with a 3/4'' spread off the bench.

I dont know how anyone can say these rifles are not accurate must be the shooter not the gun thats for sure. Anyway thats my review on the accuracy spend some money on glass and you should be fine.
