i'm a remington guy by nature, a model 700 bdl in great looking walnut suits my fancy to a tee. but i just spotted a bennelli r1 on my local gun dealers site and i really like the looks of it, need to get to a shop and have a look at 1.
what do you guys think of them, any problems with them?

I'm pretty interested in them as well. been doing some research and it looks like they're the way to go for a semi-auto rifle if you have the money for one. haven't heard of any issues yet.

Read a few gun magazine reviews for them...even those guys (who absolutely love any crappy product as long as the manufacturer keeps buying advertising space) were unimpressed with the accuracy.

"While the 6-inch groups our test gun produced could have been tighter, in reality they were perfectly adequate for 99% of the shots taken while Marco Polo sheep hunting. They, and the test gun's 15-lb trigger pull, were more than offset by the cool good looks and nice loud "bang" almost every time we pulled the trigger."

Seriously, accuracy in three tests that I've read has been mediocre at best, and disassembly for cleaning is apparently awkward. Strictly word of mouth, I have only fondled one in the local shop. Hopefully you can find someone with first hand shooting experience with one.

i certainly would not be happy with a 15lbs trigger pull and 6" moa
you'd think there would be a ton of slightly used r1's around huh.

benelli r1 $1099.99

they never cought my interest before but my local gun dealer is currently ordering a couple dozen of these in and selling them for $1099.99. in wood $1299.00 for black
sooo... for that price i may just have to see what i think for myself!

Actually, i do see a fair number of used ones for sale, but I wasn't really taking a crack at the R1 with my minor little exaggeration. I was aiming at the gun rag writers who never, ever seem to dislike a product they review, no matter how it performs.

I'm actually an admirer of Benellis in general, but the R1 just doesn't do it for me.

Are those prices correct? The wood is cheaper than the synthetic? Do the synthetic ones have the Comfortech recoil reducing gizmo for that price?

John

I have a 300 Win Mag and it shoots fantastically. I think that the issues reported were more so associated with the first generation of the gun. I am extremely and my gun is an honest 1.5 MOA with factory loads.

i thought that funny too but i called to confirm both prices are correct and yes the black has the comfortec gizmo. :)

I have 2 and they are great. Both mine shoot 1.5moa. Never malfunction and fairly easy to clean compared to BAR's etc.. Have hunted in -35 with them a few times. Nice to handle and shoot. Only complaint is the mag is always tight to get in.

Sounds like a great price you have lined up for a new one.

my local dealer told me that these new prices will be in effect for everyone!
some dealers just aren't advertising it ahead of time hoping to get the big bucks for the remaining stock before new prices come into effect!
so i have a feeling a lot more people will be trying these guns out.

The triggers are fantastic on the ones my father has. Accuracy OK, not great groups. Didn't try different kinds of ammo in each rifle, so I'm sure if we did we'd find good accuracy. The 30-06 was poor, but I think it could be the Federal Fusion ammo. I've never had luck with federals. The 300 Win had good accuracy, we fired Hornady ammo out of that one. Don't buy a semi if you're into tight groups, it's easier to work with a bolt gun.

the new prices are now in effect! i looked at 1 yesterday and i liked it.
now i just need to decide what cal. to get.....hmmm

Grab in 30-06 and with synthetic stock. I have one, some recoil eliminated by the stock inserts, great shooter.

Fusions are terrible in both mine. Have good luck with Hornady Lightmag 150 SST's in 30-06.
I have both wood and comfortech R1's, and to me they have about the same felt recoil.
I also have the wood and comfortech SBE II's and the wood definately has more recoil.

I've noticed that the R1's shoot a little left, or a little right of center depending on how many rounds are in the mag (the stagered cartidges push on the bolt). Anybody else notice this or am I dreaming?
eg. put in a fresh 4 round mag. Rack the slide. It will shoot just left, then just right, then just left, then in the middle because the mag is empty. Let me know if you guys have found this to be true.

I use reloads,as all factory shells it did not like that i tried.I never noticed the lelt or right as you did. Will have to pay attention to that.Three shots touched each other with reloads,130 grainers.140 grainers one inch groups if lucky.Overall case lenth was also tricky. One of the most accurate guns I have shot.

I have an R1 in 338 win mag, shoots factory and handloads very accurately for a semi. Easy to take down to clean, very reliable. Only complaint is magazine hard to attach as well.
