benelli r1

A colleague mentioned that his father bought the R1 in 30-06 for driven boar hunts in Europe. He said it cycles well but it is not an accuate rifle. He won't shoot beyond the 100 metre mark as it tends to be a 5" grouping.

Benelli makes nice shotguns, other companies make good rifles.

Pay attention

I own an R1,post on this thread, that I was able to get three shot groups, that touched each other. You post is a story from a buddys dad in Europe etc.etc.You then state Benelli makes nice shot guns, leave the rifles to someone other than Benelli. That was about the only credible part of the fairy tail, stating Benelli makes good shot guns. The fellow in Europe or the boars probably for that matter, are not going to read your thread. So I guess your post was for your own benefit or What?

My R1 is 1.5 MOA gun with most higher quality factory ammo. I would never keep a rifle that shot 5 inch groupings at a hundred yards. To my way of thinking that is a gun that should never have left the factory, and those occur with every manufacturer,

Keep in mind folks, that a great number of people don't have a clue how to shoot and/or shoot accurately off of a bench. I see this at my gun club all the time, zero consistency, zero discipline, zero persistence. I take bad reviews of any firearm with a very large grain of salt. Benelli employs state of the art machining and manufacturing techniques and their firearms are very well engineered and put together. I own three of their guns and I am extremely happy with each of them. Comparatively, few other guns are as well made in the same price category. I would venture to guess that much of the bad press surrounding this gun is due to its "Euro" styling as opposed to its performance/potential. If the R1 appeals to you, you might get a lemon, but you will most likely get a very reliable, accurate hunting rifle.

Glad yours shoots well, but take a big breath and relax. I did not make a personal attack on R1 owners. I presume this thread is still for people's thoughts on the rifle.

I had the R1 Argo with the wood stock in 300Win mag.
If it wasn't for needing the money at the time I would not have sold it.

It functioned flawlessly.
Super easy to clean.
Was 1.5 MOA with factory loads.
Fit and finish was outstanding.
Recoil was mild due to the action.

IMHO an outstanding design.
