Well I finally bit the bullet this fall and bought an SBE2. It shoots great, and will digest anything from 2 3/4 dram skeet loads up to 3 1/2" goose loads. Only problem is that the recoil pad fell off and was lost during a goose hunt last week. In fact, it happened on the second morning of a 5 day hunt. Needless to say I was not impressed. We searched around the blind and in the field where I had been walking in pursuit of crippled birds, but without success. I then learned from one of my hunting partners that the same thing happens with his every time it gets cold and/or wet. He finally siliconed it into place. I shot a lot of boxes of heavy Kent loads without that pad, and while I can handle recoil, the but kept slipping and my shooting went from acceptible to skybusting.

Has anyone else ever had this problem with their Benelli???

It was a common problem when they first started making the SBE2's, but I thought they had rectified the problem.

Benelli should replace it.

Called the dealer that I got the gun from, and they gave me Stoeger's number to call. I reminded them that it was a year-old (slightly used gun) when I bought it, so warranty is only for the original purchaser. They said that if Stoeger would not help, they would do their best for me.

Called Peter at Stoeger today (never had much luck with him in the past). He was his usual disinterested self. Told me that he had never heard of such a problem, but finally agreed to send me a pad. I didn't need to argue or push too hard, which suggests that they have had problems, but I did whine a little.

Now we wait to see just how long it takes for this pad to arrive. I hope the gun sees some more use this fall.

Well my replacement pad arrived from Stoeger on Tuesday. Must give them an A+ for prompt service - Wednesday to Tuesday.

However, while my original pad may not have been a perfect fit (obviously as it fell off), this one actually fits rather loosely. Rap the side of the synthetic buttstock with your hand and the pad literally flies off sideways. No wonder when I lost the other one I couldn't find it in the barley field!

I have sent an email to Peter at Stoeger about this problem. Yes I can (and probably will) silicone it in place, but I was hoping to get a shorter pad and interchange them for different layers of clothing.

Will keep you posted, but a word to the wise, that pad is worth $108 before taxes and shipping!!!!
