I just got my SBE II with the comfortech stock and shot lots of 3 1/2" loads this past weekend. It is a joy to shoot and while I cannot really compare it to a Beretta, it does feel better than the 391's that I have tried. It is also 3 times the gun that my Stoeger 2000 is. The Stoeger is a nice gun, BUT it is not a poor man's Benelli any more than a gas operated Traditions is a poor man's Beretta.

My only concern is that I am told (and have witnessed) that the SBE will not reliabley cycle loads less than 3 1/4 drams. I know a guy that shoots clays with his with 3 dram loads but it is only 70% reliable. I really like using a hunting gun for clays, not a different gun.

For that reason, I was considering an M2 Field with the comfortech stock as a mate to the SBE for clays.

Does anyone have any experience with the M2? Will it cycle properly with light ( 2 3/4 dram) loads?? What about the Beretta Pintail?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have owned 2 M1S90's, a SBE and a SBE2. They cycled everything I feed it, and I used them for a lot of real skeet shooting.

No experience with the M2 but the Benelli SuperSport is an outstanding gun and the ones that I've seen feed pretty much everything. They are a touch expensive but come with the ComfortTech stock, crio barrels and are ported. If I didn't already have a 391 I'd have the SuperSport.

I've gone through two Beretta 391's and they just didn't feel right in my clays shooting. Had a 391 with 30" barrel and mobil chokes that I sold off and tried a 28" with extended Optima chokes and wound up selling that here in the exc hange as well. Absolutley nothing wrong with the guns in function just found them " bulky ".

Have to give the nod to my O/U's for most shooting but have done very well in Sporting Clays this summer with a SBE with a 24" barrel. The sighting plane with that short barrel on the semi is about the same as my 30" barreled Browning O/U sporting. It functions fine with all my reloads at 1200 FPS and no problems what - so - ever. As a plus, it's a whole lot easier to clean than the Beretta 391's.

Have a Beretta 391 Gold Sporting in 20 gauge that is a gem. Totaly different gun in handling than the 12 gauge ( for me ) and a keeper.

Had a S90 Benelli that I sold off a couple years back and the SBE is the same gun on steroids. My SBE is a great woods gun with the camo stock and doubles duty on those rainy days shooting clays when I leave the wood stocked O/U in the case. I shoot that SBE every bit as well as my O/U's in Sporting Clays.

I've never had a problem with my SBE so can only suggest give yours a good breaking in to get it to digest some lighter loads. I keep mine lubed with a light coating of Break Free on the rails and the bolt itself. Makes clean up a wipe and slick cycling.

No experience with the " Pintail " but IMO it's just a cheap version of the Benelli.
