Benelli Shotguns

I've noticed on the EE through my own sales as well as others that Benelli guns don't seem to resell all that well on CGN. I personally have had a few that I have tried to sell only to end up trading/selling them someplace else. Stores have very little problem selling SBE's, M2 and M4's for damn near full MSRP, why do they resell so poorly? Is it a CGN thing or do they just not hold their value? I think they're fantastic guns, albeit overpriced to begin with, but if you get a deal you are likely to enjoy them very much. I am just curious what some of the feedback is,

Rems, Brownings and Winnys sell all day long but these Italians seem to be subject to endless haggling/lowballing and BTT's.

Thoughts?

Because every time I am looking for one I can't find what I am looking for and end up buying new !!! Happened to me 3 times so far ! After I buy there are lots on here within a few months ...

Fair enough, but in the last year I have tried to sell a mint condition Ultralight for $1100(gave up, kept it), a brand new unfired Camo M2 for $1199(traded it for more at a local retailer) and a mint condition Sport II for $1450(will be trading at same local retailer for $1500). All of these prices are way lower than retail for same, but still couldn't sell them here so it got me wondering.

Rems, Browning and Winny`s can all be found for $1300 and down brand new. A brand new SB2 left handed will cost you $2000 and up. The Benelli semi`s I think are just overpriced. I bought a left handed SB2 for $2000 and will be lucky to sell it for $1400. I think it really relates to the price point on the Benelli semi`s. They are too damn expensive. The pumps are more realistic in price and can be found used for $600 for a Super Nova. While the other brands are at a lower price point and guys are willing to buy it for $1000 used and under. I would hate to take a $600 hit for a brand new gun so I just keep it in the safe. The guns are too damn expensive compared to the gas guns. That is the problem period.
 
Most benellis on here are way to high. For a used gun that you can buy for cheaper through a dealer on here brand new. Its a no brainer. Some guys need to be realistic and understand thats what goes through most minds.

We have 4-5 benelli's all autos and all but 1 was bought brant new. The one not new was traded for another benelli. But we also got great prices on them new, better price then half the used ones of here. So why even bother.

I've sold both Benelli and Beretta autoloaders here on CGN and have been happy with the final selling price. All have sold within 48hrs and within $100 of my asking price.
 
I have been looking to get a Super Nova, and from looking over past EE sales it looks like they are posted within 50-100$ of Retail. I'd rather get a brand new one at that price.

Agreed. I've have been thinking off and on about getting a Supernova, but when all the adds in the EE are priced at the same as retail, then why bother? If all I am going to save is the taxes (or at best a $50 discount) then I will just pony up and buy new.

I've never bought or sold on the EE, so really have no right to say anything, but most of the adds that interest me enough to look always seem to be the same. A guy selling a gun for exactly, or VERY close to, what he paid for it new. I don't understand it personally, but I assume these guys must sell their guns eventually otherwise why do so many of them basically ask full retail price for a used gun in the first place?

By the time I'd pay shipping, I may even SAVE MONEY buying new rather than buying a gun through most of the adds I've peeked at.
 
I agree,

Many feel that a Benelli commands almost as much used as it does new. However, I have given three examples from the last year of guns that I know were much lower than retail, that still couldn't sell here but could be sold/traded easily somewhere else for just as much or a little more. Yes, Benellis are expensive and yes they are not your dads' Browning or Remington. I would also concede that none of my guns are tactical or specialty models. Anyhow, just some food for thought.

I think it's a market thing: demand and supply. I've been looking to buy a new Super Nova tactical 14", went through most of the stores who carry Benelli around Toronto and up North, pulled all kinds of strings, even talked to the supplier himself (through one of the dealers). It turns out that even distributors don't know for sure when a certain gun can be available ("can be 2 weeks, can be 6 months", I was told).
In this kind of situation, folks that want to buy now, will overpay for used product because there is a shortage of new ones on the market... I am not saying it's good, I think it's rather bad. But as long as there is shortage of a quality product that people want to buy, used guns will continue to sell with almost the same price as new (because the "new" are not available).
 
I wonder if Canadian retailers are getting them from Italy or the States. They seem to cost double what they do in America, Supernovas anyway.
 
I've found that camo guns are always a harder sell, black is easier. M4's generally fetch about 80% of new, same with other tactical models like Supernova's and M2's, assuming they're in good shape of course.
The waterfowl/sporting models seem to get about 60%-70% of new. I think the reason is that the market is smaller. Tactical guns are a hot item. Lots of members here only use a shotgun at a range or informal gravel pit/dump shooting. They don;t feel like dishing out $2000 for a twice a year bird gun. My thoughts anyhow.

And yes, Benelli's are overpriced in Canada, new and used, but AFAIK they are imported from the US.
 
I think it can also relate to what type of buying is shopping around on a forum. Generally speaking a person looking to buy off a forum is looking for a deal or looking to buy in a lower price range. If you want to spend top dollar on a top dollar gun your more likely to shop at a store with a warranty or other support. Thats a generalization, but something to consider.

I could never justify buying a $2000 shotgun... not when a $600 gun will often do the same thing just as well.
 
I always look for a good deal on an SBE II for a couple of my buddies. Haven't seen a deal yet.
The local shop can usually sell them new for less than what is asked for used ones.

Function is one thing. Quality and fit n' finish is another. Hell people probably spend the extra 1400 bucks on looks alone, or because <insert shotgun> was in that video game, or because <insert shotgun> is in active service by US Marines in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars concurrently.
 
I got my Supernova from the EE in flawless condition with 50 rounds through it for well below retail price. I agree, though, that most people are asking way too much for used guns...

Not too long ago I drove 45 minutes away to buy a brand new 10/22 and I paid less after taxes for it than I would've paid for a used one with shiping off the EE.
