Anybody have any comments on this gun? How does it handle the 3.5s? Was thinking about it in 28 inch barrel. Hows the reliability in heavy rain, mud like conditions? I have not shot this particular model, does it really smooth out the bigger shells similar to most other autoloaders? any negatives here?

I have one, so does my Dad. They're great.
Shoots 7/8 trap loads to 2oz turkey loads no problems.
Mine is usually covered in mud and cow $4it and still has no problems.
Easy to clean at the end of the day.
Highly recommend after trying everyone elses stuff and owning most everything on the market.
Also reccomend a 26" bbl. Same, if not better performance, and better handling.

Arguably the best semi-auto mechanism available. I wish they'd build one with attractive lines like a 60's Rem 1100. Instead the Italians of all people built this great gun with plastic and sharp edges. Looks like something Buck Rogers would use to shoot pigs in space.
+1. I'm no fan of the Eurotrash styling, either. I think that older guns were designed to more of a "form follows function" approach, whereas they deliberately try to add styling cues to modern designs, with hideous results. Really, does a hooked trigger guard serve any useful purpose?
Benelli is certainly not the only offender in this regard.
Vinci and super has the new action which doesn't have a recoil spring in the stock. This is a major selling point for me when I got the extrema. Nothing worst than constantly having to take the stock off to clean the spring, especially if you hunt few days in a row.
M2 and SBE are similar, just 3 and 3.5". I would look at the vinci or super vinci if I'm looking at a benelli.
My only thoughts on the SBE was that it appears to be the only one that lists 3.5s, do you think its that necessary to use them for waterfowl? I havent used them to hunt with in the past, so other than the marketing crap Ive read I am not sure. All my other guns are 3 inch only.

The SBE spring tube needs to be maintained. The SBE II has a stainless tube that requires less maintenance. In fact, I've never cleaned mine yet. Had the gun for around 3 years now and put through roughly 30 flats of sporting clay ammo and 6 flats of heavy duty lead stuff (old imperial 3" and kent 3.5 turkey) when hunting crows on the farm.
The spring still doesn't feel gritty or dirty when you push it in, but I'll probably check it out now that I've thought about how much I've put through it.
My hunting partner has the Vinci. It's a little bigger and bulkier, but feels lighter. Both guns kick with big ammo in them. A little harder to clean then an SBE if you don't count cleaning the SBE tube because you have to take the bolt out.

Break action gun will always swing a bit better because they are short and your hands are placed in a more natural position in relations to the barrel.
Any benny with "super" on them will handle 3.5. As far as if it's needed, I would say no. However, I usually shoot 3.5s as they are great to hitting cripples that started to sail. It's really a personal preference. All benny will kick with the big loads, so you have to be the judge.
As for fit, they are adjustable for fit, but most have a raised rib, which is a bit different from mossy and remmy guns.
