Now that I have this posted in the right thread lets try this again. I'm trying to figure out what's the best 12 gauge pump action shotgun at a decent price. I've pretty much narrowed it down to the 4 shotguns in the title. Which do you think is the best of the 4?

all are fine choises. its going to boil down to fit. wingmasters are always a classic favorite. i found the benelli to be a little slim in my hands. i liked the browning alot and the bottom ejection is a nice plus. mossy 500 are ok but didnt like the feel.
for me it goes
wingmaster, bps, benelli, mossy 500.

i have shot them all a little. never owned them.
you need to go sholder and them all. if the gun do fit you wont hit s**it

I shoot skeet and sporting clays with my Nova and SuperNova, They are great guns, good swing. I shoot a respectable 21 skeet but a semii would increase my score I'm sure. Maybe even hit a 25.

Both guns have yet to fail me, fit and finish is always great on a Benelli.

Cheers

I heard though that the Remington 870's are not being made very well anymore and that they rust very easily. Or is that only true for the express?

benelli or bps for me. Better quality guns than the other two. Wingmaster are nice but I do not trust remington products anymore. Mossy 500 is a great gun but not on par with the other three.

For the same price I would get a mossberg 930. Semi is better for skeet.

I don't want to sound like one giant ad for Browning, but I love my BPS. >500 shells fired since October, no jams, smooth action, bottom ejection kicks ass, has a pretty decent recoil pad built right into it.

Held a Supernova, it just didn't feel right. 500 felt like a plastic toy that would fall apart if I looked at it wrong. Wingmaster wasn't available when I was buying, so I can't comment.

Hold some guns. Find what feels right

Remington 870 Wingmaster, Browning BPS, Benelli Supernova, Mossberg 500.

Although a good gun, the one fault of the Benelli Supernova is that it requires a longer stroke to cycle the action than the other 3. When quick doubles present themselves many people tend to "short stroke" them, causing the gun to jam. In serious competition, a short stroke is considered operator error and will result in a "lost" target.

Of those mentioned I'd take the bps. I do love my mossbergs but the bps is smoother. I sold my rem 870 wingmaster deluxe in favour of my mossbergs.
If I may add a suggestion. Ithaca 37. I love mine. Its the smoothest pump I've ever held and only being 2 3/4" its next to impossible to short stroke it

Bps. Smooth action, bottom eject, nice swing, great recoil pad.

New 870's are friggin junk. I've got a used one that's 20+ years old and it's nice, but I have a hunting buddy with a new one. Constantly single loading that gun. Absolute JUNK. And a previous poster was right, the supernova has a real long stroke.

Last year I ran over 3500 rounds through my bps hunting and redneck clay shooting. I didnt clean it once and never had a failure.

But if my local shop doesn't have it is it worth ordering somewhere else? I like the Benelli supernova and have already handled it in a 1 store. Should I look elsewhere to find a bps. Also I want a 28" barrel and it seems like most bps' are under that.

I have a Supernova, 870 and a BPS. The action on the 870 is the smoothest of the bunch, I find my BPS heavy and somewhat cumbersome. Gotta give the nod to the Supernova for being an all around performer. Turkey,Deer, Ducks and Geese all tremble at the sight of it.

Are you using buckshot for Deer in the supernova or do you have the rifled barrel?
