hey guys and gals

wondering if anyone owns or have used the benelli supernova pump action?

look to see what peoples general opinions of it are.

im looking for a good skeet gun, by skeet i mean me and my friends with a chucker in the woods, not actual competition shooting.

looking for a light weight high quality shotgun, was originally going to go semi auto but have found that anything good is out my price range which is between 500-1000

I use my Nova for that purpose and for geese and ducks, and I really like it. I don't feel pounded at all.

Now for geese I always load so my last round is a 3.5 inch, and I wish I had the recoil absorbing stock for that. Anything else I've been good with.

I've switched a lot of guys to new guns for the same reason as you, they want a new gun in 3.5, but all the semis are too expensive. And another 870 is still another 870.... Many have went to the Nova because of that.

Keep shooting. Til ya bleed!!! :)

I have shot a super novva for 2 years. fantastic shotgun. Use it for trap at the club and cycles all the time. ets all ammunition and i usually use the IC choke. Simple to clean and maintain.
If you like buying shotguns, don't buy a super nova as there is no reason to buy another.

By the way if you make the leap you can use my line when folks ask you what it is.
' This is what your 870 wants to be when it grows up"

the only bad thing i can say about the Benelli Nova/SuperNova is if you shake the gun, the forend rattles a bit. that, and theyre far less customizable than an 870 so make sure it fits you. everything else is just about perfect.

one of the big selling points for me was watching a gun show on TV (dont remember what it was since i dont watch TV much, perhaps someone else remembers it), where they were gravely warning people of the dangers of a 12/20 burst in a shotgun. they set up a Benelli (IIRC it was an M2), dropped a 20ga shell in the forcing cone, chambered a 12ga shell behind it and pulled the trigger. all the Benelli did was blow the entire 20ga shell (which also went off in the barrel) about 20 yards downrange. they repeated the test 3x with no damage to the barrel. this was sortof a letdown for them because they were trying to warn people how catastrophic a 12/20 burst can be and nothing bad happened.... but IMO its a testament to how well made the Benellis are.
ill wager that a run of the mill North American, Chinese or Turkish pump wouldnt have fared so well. anyone care to try? :D

I have a nova, and I really like it. I'm getting a newer trap/skeet gun, but my nova has seen probably 5000 rounds. It still shoots like the first time. And its good for small people, the recoil is very manageable, better than an 870 in the opinion of the 108 lb girl I taught to shoot it.

the Nova or the SuperNova?
i had a Nova (non-adjustable stock) and the nearly 14" LOP was way too unwieldy for petite girls.

My Supernova is an amazing gun. I've shot hundreds, maybe thousands of round with it and never had a single problem unlike my 870 which seems to have one every other trip to go shooting. Go buy one and you'll not be disappointed, I promise!

Yup.. Bought my Nova for the same reason the OP is looking for and I agree about the pump rattling a bit. That said, it is one of the best smoothest pumps I have shot and you can feel the quality.

It chambers up to 3.5" shells and shoots steel well, so it's great for geese and duck gun also.
The "mag cut off" was a feature I never thought i'd use but it has become a staple for duck and goose for me.

Have fun.

The nova.

This is the 5'7" 108 lb'er after shooting the nova. That's my M-14 in her hand.

great gun, it's just about the best field pump you can buy for the money.
it's reliable and light weight.
The only reason i got away from it is because i got a Superblack eagle II. But if I every go in the bush, i still prefer a pump.
870 is reliable, but they have jamming issues alot of the times, but only requires a one time fix.

And to whoever that said 870 dont rust, but all guns will rust, unless every part is made out of plastic.

My wife bought me a Supernova for my engaugement present 5 years ago. My front end has the rattle but never had one problem with it. I've put thousands of round through it.

Super Nova

I have had one for a couple of years and it has served me well. Used it for hunting and for sporting clays and have found that it is one of the best pump shotguns.
3.5 shells are tame in the Super Nova compared to 3" in a 870. I could shoot it all day. The comfortech stock is great!!! Worth the extra couple of bucks compared to the plain Nova.

The Supernova was the first shotgun I bought, and is still the only shotgun I own :) Having the four shims to offset the stock from the action/barrel is a great feature as well, really lets you custom-fit the shotgun to YOU.

I bought a supernova in September, shot it at the range and hunted hard with it. Really love it. Doesn't rattle your skull or bruise your shoulder like my Mossy 500 when shooting 3.5 inchers.:shotgun:

I recently bought a Supernova Tactical and love it. Benelli chrome lines their barrels for longer life and I agree the recoil is quite acceptable. The steady grip stock handles so nice and brings the sights up to eye level. The action is buttery smooth and fast. The other nice feature is the large amount of synthetic used on the gun. No rust and its tough as hell. These shotguns are really a cut above IMO. Well worth the money.
