benelli tactical supernova vs m2 vs m4. And which stock?

So I have to preface by saying the M4 with collapsible stock looks super aggressive and mean. I like it. Yes, I'm superficial and looks matter to me. :d

That said, with our dumb laws and magazine limits on semi-auto, I'm not sure I want a semi. I'm thinking I may be better off with a SuperNova. The main use will be 3 gun. Is this the best choice in Canada?

I also have a question about the stock. The pistol grip with collapsible stock looks really cool, but the claim is that the comfortech lowers felt recoil. Can anyone with experience shooting both in equivalent configurations (model, weight, barrel length and load) comment? I also see this claim about the M4 gas system vs the inertia system of the M2 and pump action of the SuperNova.

Also, how limiting would an 18.5" or 22" barrel be for hunting? Would it be awful? I know the standard is like 28" but I don't think I want something that long for 3 gun. Eventually I'm sure I'll have a half-dozen shotguns, but I recently got my license and have bought a 3 handguns, a rifle, am eyeing another rifle, etc. Lots of $$$ going out the door.

thanks

I have a m4 and tactical 14 pump both with collapsible stock. I shot lots of Canada geese with the 14 using 3 1/2 heavy goose loads. Those shells have wicked recoil. My thoughts are the recoil is spread out between my shoulder and pistol grip hand. I dont see how any other stock could lessen the felt recoil.

The m4 has less recoil but only accepts 3 inch shells. I love both guns but the m4 is by far my most fun gun in my collection. Most of my friends think so too.

I have been running a standard nova in action shooting for almost 5 years now. In my opinion it is the way to go in the manual class. Add a tube extension and you are good to go. Just keep an eye on the firing pin spring which is a known weak point (thanks Karl)

What barrel length do you think I should go with? I want any shotgun I buy to be unrestricted and for now I need it to be multipurpose for hunting and range fun/competition.

The M2 Field in either 21" or 24" makes for a great multipurpose setup.

You get excellent handling, the sighting advantages of a vent rib, and interchangeable chokes, in a lightweight package that's not ridiculously long.

Also, the M2's aftermarket is probably the best out of all semiauto shotguns.

If I could only have one shotgun for everything, it'd be an M2 Field with a 21" barrel.

I have the Supernova Tactical equipped with a mesa tactical stock and a side saddle, and I have been running it for 3 Gun and hunting coyotes for a good number of years.
That said I would not recommend it as a general purpose 3 Gun / Hunting / Range gun for a couple reasons.

1. Its equipped with Ghost Ring sights. Good for slugs and buckshot, acceptable for 3 Gun and coyotes but not great for clays and birds.
2. Its not equipped with chokes. This seriously limits you in 3 Gun and anything with aerial targets. Not a factor for slugs and buckshot especially if running flight control which I do.
That said you can buy a Carlson Barrel threaded for chokes and then nothing in here about the lack of chokes applies but that is another $400 dollar investment.

Those points aside the Supernova is a great pump action shotgun and going with the standard model and not the tactical is a consideration I would look at. If I was wanting a semi auto I would be looking at either the M2 for the reasons mentioned above or a Beretta 1301, although the aftermarket for that is not as strong yet.

It depends on what your going to do with the gun, A 22" barrel wont be too bad, but I wouldn't bother using it for trap shooting.

Beretta 1301 would be a great choice too, just got mine today. I've owned the Benelli M2, M4 and Supernovas, The Beretta is some where between the M2 and m4 in quality.

Advantages to the 1301 over Benelli;

Lighter
Better stock options (magpul and mesa)
Large controls included
Cheaper
Fires faster "if that matters"
Comes with a nice plastic case vs benelli paper box.
Shell lifter does not bite
Barrel is tight in the receiver and does not wiggle around
LOP is full adjustable, so is drop and cant.
