I thought all vz24's had a straight bolt I saw one yesterday that had a bent bolt. What's the deal with that? Made at BRNO Lions head crest on reciver,
and bubba'd pretty bad. But the action and barrel are sweet. I just thought that they were all straight bolt. Help!

I have a Brno-based Israeli 308 - it still has the lions crest on the receiver. It has the bent bolt, which appears original. Stock, which also appears original, has a "scallop" in it to accomodate the bent bolt.

re mauser

I got more info today on this gun as it turns out the bolt has not been bent by bubba , rather its a Kreigsmodell bolt it features two round "gas holes" instead of the normal oval gas holes and also lack a strengthing rib that's present on earlier bolts. That or its also been brought to my attention that it could be a romanian sniper bolt! (Cool)! In any event shes mine know!:p

It probably was an Israeli issued BRNO Mauser. When they were rebuilt, their VZ24's were reconfigured like a Mauser Standard Model 1935 except with bent bolt. the Israelis mixmastered the rebuilds so alot of Kreigsmodel bolts ended up in VZ24 receivers.

The rib is not for strength - it's to make the action cycle more smoothly - it engages a bolt guide slot in the rear bridge of the K98k rifle. Elim inated in late 1944 on many rifles to speed production.
