Bent Bullets???

Hey guys, I have a Winchester 77 semi box-mag type. It keeps bending the bullets where bullet meets cartrage and wont feed in the chamber. The first one goes in fine when you pull back the bolt and let it go, but all the rest bend. It's not the mag I have two of these and swapped mags with the good one, still does it. I polished the feed ramp to a mirror shine, still have the problem. Any Ideas?

There may be a gap between the feeder and the mag. Otherwise, the bullets are being pushed too slow and getting caught on a bad angle after they are stripped from the mag. Have you cleaned it by means of complete disassembly? Does it bend while it slides into the chamber or does it not make it to the chamber?

Check the slide around the area of the firing pin. If it's rough, it may prevent the cartridge rim from sliding up smoothly into position so it is trying to push the round into the chamber on an angle

ok, will check it out.. I have pictures of some of the bullets I brought home from the range. Will post tomorrow(I'm not sure how to post pics on here yet). I appreciate the help, it is a nice accurate gun and I just refinished the stock.

You might have a look at the bullet itself. There will likely be gouges where the lead is hung up on something that will give you some idea of what it is hitting. Dents or grooves and look at the shape of them and see what around the feed area has that profile. Had to sort out a 64 and it took a little digging.
Might be the mags are not seating high enough. Just a thought. Good luck-this stuff can drive you crazy.:)

+1 mags sitting too low inside the frame caused me fair share of grief. Bent bullets - sounds very familiar.
