can be done

If it is not to bad you can pack it with wet sand and build a barrel press to take the bend out. then make a plug the same size as bore and work it back and forth. You will have to stop short of choke. A lot faster to find a new one. But if you are handy it can be done.

Can you post a picture of the barrel to see how bad it`s bent?

The gunsmith I work with straightens out quite a few long gun barrels after every hunting season. Most of the time it`s due to an unfortunate ATV ride and sometimes to a fall from a tree stand. The job usually turns out pretty good and wont show at all unless there`s a real kink in the barrel to start with. I`ve seen him repair some guns I thought would be good for the scrap heap. Post a picture and I`ll show it to him, it`s worth a try.

Filling the barrel with water and really plugging the ends could quite easily split the barrel. The idea of filling with sand to keep it from kinking, while staightening is a better idea. If the barrel still has at least 18 in. of good barrel ,you could just shorten it. A picture of how bad the barrel is bent, would help in a solution, maybe.

"...fill the barrel with water and..." That won't work. Steel is much, much harder than ice.
Try Epp's or go here and ask. Add the W's.

If the bend is not too extreme, you can make wooden cradles up for it and hammer it back. Think two pieces of 1 x 2" fir with a half round notch in them and place them on a cement floor with the barrel resting in the notches and the bend with the bump up. You want the cradles to be at either end of the bend. Make a third cradle out of 2x2" fir and put that one centered on the bend and whack the block with a large hammer. Check for straightness by sighting down the barrel by eye and repeat as necessary. It has worked for me a couple of times.
