Hi, on my S&W M&P 15 Sport gen 2 my polymer beowulf mags will not drop free of the rifle, they need to be released and pulled out. My 5 rounders drop freely. They/the rifle have only seen ~400 rounds. Is this normal? Can I file them to drop freely?

I have them also. you can look on the mag and see where it's wearing and take a file to it and see if that helps. I have the same gun and same mags and only the OEM mag falls out cleanly, every other one catches. I have learned to "whip" the rifle to the left which shoots the mag out and leaves the magwell nice and open for a reload.

Metal mags are better but they are hard to find and 3 times the price.

I have the same issue with the PCV mag on my XCR; I believe someone in the XCR FAQ thread mentioned they shaved off some of the spine and other worn areas like cereal83 mentioned above. This isn't really a big problem while bench shooting since you can just yank it out, but if you're doing some high-speed low-drag stuff, I can understand your need for speed.

Any issues with LAR-15 mags dropping free on yours cereal83?

Asked 2 local shooters with them (beowulf) and they said their LAR's caught as well, so now I am iffy on buying them to replace if I can modify my beowulfs.

Will try to file one this weekend. Would greasing the top of the mag help? Or just create a place to get extra dirty?

That's what I had to do to genm2 pmags to drop free of maxwell in my colt Canada.

The only magazine that I had had drop free consistently is the one 5 round clip that came with the gun. I have 2 LAR mags and even they get caught up more than 50% of the time. I have tried many, even well used ones from a friends and it still gets caught.

Lubing the mags would def help but might become a pain down the road.

Some mags are a little tight in certain receivers. Try some sharpies and look for rub marks, filing down the high spots - just don't mess with the feed lips.

Same thing here with SA20 and IWI Beowulf mags; only one out of the five I got drops free.
its not perfect but it happens, if I remember correctly only the factory Colt and a AA Beowulf ever dropped free so far out of everything I tried, my CC lower is tight.

All the aluminum lar-15 drop free without issue. The plastic PCV Beowulf mags have never dropped free from my colt Canada mrr 11.6.

Given that the RCMP have recently deemed all Beowulf magazines to be prohibited devices, unless blocked to 5 rds of .223, whether they drop free or not might be utterly irrelevant.

someone hasn't been paying attention to recent changes made by the pirates in charge of gun laws, I see.

It would also be interesting to see in court if the lack of any sort of notice, from the Horseyboys, about the change in a long standing policy/interpretation; could be used as a defencive strategy.

yep it would. the public has the right to be made aware that they are breaking "laws".
