Berdan Primer Removal

removing hydraulically is the most reliable and effective. I have a simple cylinder and piston setup and I have deprimed several thousand berdan primed cases with no difficulty - 7.5x55 Swiss, 7.62x39, 7.62x54R, .303 British, 7.62x51 NATO and the list goes on.

I also have an RCBS Berdan removal tool. What a joke - biggest waste of money ever on any reloading equipment..

If it's pistol brass the expander die will decap it hydraulically with no problem. Just fill the case with water & run it into the die. For rifle cases I would expect that a Lyman "M" die would the same thing. Just be prepared for a bit of a mess as the water squirts out the flash holes. And dry the dies thoroughly & give a light oil coat to prevent rust.

I also read somewhere that a punch can be made using piano wire that is small enough to go into the flash hole(s) and is stiff enough not to bend. Never tried it, though.
