Hi guys,

Trying to get some info on the two generations of 1301. I can’t find a gen 2 amd the gen 1 seems to a lot cheaper than gen 2. Is it worth buying a Gen 1 saving 300-400 bucks or wait till gen 2
Comes back in stock? As well what is all upgraded in the gen 2?

Google is your friend. Screw in chokes for one. I don’t like ghost rings myself so I went with the 21” competition and am very happy with it.

I have a gen 2 and its amazing, the bolt release is fix and the chokes are great I use mine for turkey hunting just have to change the chokes bad side the chokes are expensive, I would wait for a gen 2 if I where you.

It really depends on what you'll be using it for. If hunting isn't it, then being able to use different chokes might be irrelevant for your purposes. And even with a fixed cylinder bore you can still use it for hunting but with a shorter range obviously.
The bolt release is better on a Gen 2 but neither that or the lack of removable chokes would stop me from buying a Gen 1 if the price was right.
Either way they are excellent shotguns.

Nothing outright wrong with a gen 1 but I feel the changes they made are excellent and worth the extra money. Buying parts from the US is nearly impossible right now with all the panic. If the release and fixed choke don't bother you I would just go ahead.

So, the issue with the bolt release on the gen 1, wasn't it designed that way ,so if you hit it one way it would quickly empty the mag when needed to unload it, this ,however , leaded to some problems with the button getting hit at the wrong time and dumping 2 rounds on the lifter , jamming the gun , is that , more or less correct ?
And then , as been said, removable choke tubes on the gen 2

Those are two of the changes, the third is an aluminum rail instead of a plastic one. If you can source a shroud a gen one can be threaded for chokes. You could choose something affordable instead of paying out the ass for Beretta's chokes. $95/each is a bit ridiculous.

The bolt release, yes its possible though not likely, it's a $25 fix from Stoeger Canada if you feel you need it. Other than that it depends on how much you save. I don't think you would regret a gen 1

I have a cylinder choke in my Gen 2 Tactical and haven't felt the need to change it to a tighter constriction. It patterns much tighter than I ever would have imagined for an open choke. Because of the back bored barrel maybe? Someone with more knowledge than me as to why will be able to explain that I'm sure.

If you rock the bolt release backwards it throws 1 1/2 shells on the lifter.
Everyone is saying this was fixed in the gen 2 but I have a gen 2 and it still does this.
Mines a 1301 competiton but I can't see it being any different

Its meant to be like that to remove shells without using the action, nothing like the GEN 1 and its rocker bolt release that could be easily activated, and why Beretta changed the release design. Its really a non issue more operational error or not knowing said firearm.

The competition is different. Same reason barrels don’t interchange. I have a competition and while yes it will do it, I don’t see it happening by accident. It would take a pretty good bump against something to get it to happen. If it worries you it’s a 2 minute fix

How is the bolt release/shell release any different on the comp then the Tactical, when both have the same design. Bumping a GEN2 bolt release will not cause shells to release onto the lifter, you physical need to lift it upwards for this to happen. There's nothing to fix on the Gen2, if you have a Gen 1 rocker bolt release you can buy the bolt release shroud protector from Stoeger.

The tactical is based on a 3” frame while the comp is based on a 3 1/2” frame. While the gen 2 tactical got a redesigned bolt release latch the competition did not. Apparently the bolt latch is a redesign and the gen 2 bolt latch is not compatible with a gen 1. And same with the barrels (tactical to comp) They aren’t compatible. As I also said the fix is simple (that would be the bolt shroud from stoeger)

The 1301 Comp Pro (Gen 2) has the exact same bolt release as the Gen 2 Tac, just like the Gen 1 comp has the exact same rocker bolt release as the Gen 1 Tac.
