Hello to all the Beretta 391 user out there. I was shooting trap the other day. 2 rounds of single 16 yard, and a round of double. I experience frequence FTF with my Beretta 391 Teknys Gold sporting. The new round from the mag tube would get caught on the right hand side of the chamber while feeding and get stuck.
The gun was a bit dirty too. I haven't cleaned/lubed it for 200 rounds, plus the two singles i shot on that day would make it 250 rounds without cleaning. Is there something wrong with the gun itself or it's just that I should've cleaned it after every outing?

I did clean it afterwards of course, haven't got a chance to shoot it again yet.

I've heard nothing but good reviews from all the 391 users, so please help me with this one, because I'm starting to think maybe I really do need a o/u.

I looked at the feed ramp. It's definitely not bend, but maybe very very tiny bit slanded to the LEFT side, so why would the round get stuck on the right side of the chamber if the feed ramp is slanted towards the left. Again only very very tiny bit.

F**k... seems like I have a twist carrier.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've had 2 different types of jamming problems with my 391 Gold Sporting.
The first problem was due to a twisted carrier. Every time it jammed, the shell was pointed to the right, and the front of the shell was against the chamber mouth. I bought a new carrier from Cole's and installed it, and the gun has cycled thousands of shells flawlessly since. ..."

That was the exact problem I experienced.

This is a 2nd hand Beretta, anyone I can talk to about this problem? Who makes replacement carriers?

:p I got an early Optima Sporting with the same problem. Stoeger replaced the trigger group (with much reluctance from Peter) after I explained the solution to the problem. If you had a new gun, Stoeger would replace the whole trigger group. As a used gun, your best bet is Cole in Maine US of A. I do have one of their trigger jobs: AWESOME!!!:)
Best regards,
Henry;)
PS: I have not cleaned my 391 since I got it!

What type of ammo are you using? My 391 feeds everything except Federal Top Gun 1 ounce shells. Maybe some different ammo might help.

If it is a bent carrier and you bought the gun new go directly back to the dealer and let them sort it out with Stoeger. Dealers have better luck getting some action from them than individuals. (This is damning with faint praise. I've heard dealers ##### endlessly about Stoeger but I've had more luck working through the dealer than dealing directly with them).

If you bought the gun used call Stoeger in Oshawa, Ontario. Explain the problem to them and hope for the best. Don't be surprised if it takes more than one call to get them off the dime.

Let us know how it works out. This problem will not be a surprise to Stoeger and if they jerk you around they deserve to have the full details aired here. If they treat you well and a prompt in solving the problem then they also deserve to have that make public.

FWIW, it's not just Beretta that can have these problems. A friend had a similar problem with a Browning Gold. When he contacted Browning's repair centre the response was, "Oh, another one..."

:p My 391 Gold Optima Sporting will chew anything including 2 1/2 dram trainning loads.:) Berettas tend to like to be wet with Break-Free! Specially the return spring in the stock and the trigger assembly! Break-Free is the only lubricant to also dissolve powder!

This will get me in trouble: ask for Nick when phonning Stoeger. He is the National Sales manager and a shooter. Don't bull him. Give him the facts. He will see that the problem is resolved.:)

Best regards,
Henry;)

As far as thinking that the gun should be cleaned after each outing, I can say that my 391 runs for a long time between cleanings and never even studders. I think your problem is mechanical (bent carrier). One of the threads on shotgun world showed how to remeove and test the carrier. Might be worth a try.

I shoot a tekney gold sporting as well and have had the same problem occur a few times. Just like claybuster it has been with federal top gun shells. Our club recently got a good deal on these shells so that is what I've been shooting, I get that exact smae jam at least once out of 200 - 300 shells. Never had a hitch shooting for 2 months with wally world crap though. I'm still gona take a look at my shell carrier though.

Just took the shell carrier out of my gun. on a level surface with three corners down the fourth is elevated about 2 - 3 mm. It doesn't even look right eyeballing it. I'll run somemore shells through till the end of clays season and then send it out to see if that is what's causing the feed problem

Same thing on mine, only the elevation is only maybe 1mm. The left side of the carrier that's pointing to the muzzle direction is higher than the rest of the points.

I tried different ammo. Remington gun club, still have ftf.

So as a temporary fix I grinded the elevated side of the carrier down a bit so that the top surface is even by looking at it. I have a trap shoot tomorrow and will find out if this solves the problem.

I have a Teknys gold sporting and it won't do well with either win ammo or federal, shoots Kent all day long even 7/8oz loads. Was at a shoot last weekend where the ammo was supplied and it was a no go in my gun, finshed the shoot with my Extrema II with eats everything.FS
