Thanks guy. Called Stoeger and they had top and bottom extractors, so I ordered one of each.
687, that thought had occurred to me when mine fell apart yesterday. Once I saw how they were built I wondered why they had to be sprung so strong. It was awfully nice closing the gun with the bottom extractor removed - closes like butter rather than an exercise. And like you say, no reason for them to be thrown that far, and it must contribute to a shorter ejector lifespan.
