I'm one of those guys who's had both but to be honest the Beretta was the one I always liked better, Citori's always seemed a bit clunky by comparison. I shot an XT Trap for a while as well as a 682 GoldEX and I liked both well enough but then switched to a Browning Broadway Trap and that gun handled much nicer than the XT or 682X, so nice in fact that I have had 4 Broadways since then!
Berettas fit and feel better to me than browning. Browning's will generally always have nicer fit and finish. The new beretta silver pigeons of late have had horrendous finish for the price point. Even my a400 xplors left the factory with finishes that I'd be disappointed to see on a $400 gun. Mind you they work flawlessly but for their asking price the wood should have at least been fully protected
I think the pricing is right for the market. The 688 falls between the silver pigeon sporter and the 694. I do believe laminate should be cheaper than walnut but anything new from Beretta pushed towards clay shooters won't be cheaper

Love this gun ! This gun feels a LOT like Glen's DT 10 !
It points well...nice and flat down the rib. We had a real crappy day for a first time shoot for it...-20 with the wind chill and blustery snow squalls !! Glen shot this gun very well outta the box...left the comb flat...he never raised or adjusted it at all for the first time. I fired a half a dozen shots out of it...went 4 for 6...it's a little long in the LOP for my barrel chest !
If ya like the black (pepper) laminates...this guns for you ! Sharp lookin, the bit of orange hi lights really pop ! Swings really nice with the 32 in bbls. All in all it's sooooo much nicer than the 686 Sporting he traded on it !! A few of the squad shot it as well...everyone loved it. These guys are Citori, 694 and DT 11 shooters !
I personally think the price point could have been a bit lower by at LEAST several hundred bucks because of the plywood stock set used instead of the Walnut which is normally used.
As MUCH as I really want one, I'm gonna have to hold off on getting one, mainly because I'm sure I'm gonna have to get a mobility scooter to get my worn out knees around the courses this summer forward ! I'm content using my bread & butter 625 Citori, and my Fabarm N2 Elos as my back up !

Thanks much for the review Kevin. With respect to the above, I have two things to note. First is that you'd be amazed at how cheap walnut stock blanks are when you buy them by the thousand. As respects, the laminate, it is so much more than plywood. Species selection is important for grain, starting color and consistency. Knots and inclusions are simply not OK, because such a thing in layer three, would not be noticed until the blank is well under way. The process involves vacuum, a stabilizing compound (likely MMA with a polymerization catalyst), then pressure and heat. The end product, done properly, yields an attractive and stable product - but it is so much more than plywood. One might almost expect to pay more for the laminate.
I completely understand the LOP challenge. (Mine is 13 3/8) so when someone offers me a try of a full length gun, it's simply not going to fit and I end up looking like a little girl trying to hold up a big heavy gun.

You're no doubt correct Rob ! I guess there's a lot more than just gluing tree ply's together with dyed glue !
I cut every shotgun stock, I've ever shot for any length of time. Including my 625 and my 425 !!
The Fabarm I bought a yr ago is the Syren model made for youth and women...if fits me SOOO friggen good ! I just gotta put up with the chit slinging from my squads about my purple case and me gettin a new purple vest LMAO

The internet is hyping these guns. You know what that means.
Euro's like beautiful guns. Not an ugly whore. I predict this gun will flop with the market niche it was intended for. Unless the price is drastically reduced. Never under estimate a 500 year old gun manufacturer.
With a 60 cent dollar, I would be be very skeptical of putting this gun on my shelf....if I owned a gun store.

I was beginning to think I was the only one shooting with a sub-14 inch LoP.
I’m 5’ 7”, 170# and have ‘settled on’ a 13-5/8” LoP.
Im 5'10" 175lbs and shoot a 1301 comp without any spacers so I think thats recorded as 13.5" lop
I prefer 14.5" on my sxs guns though
I bought a stock blank from Rienhardt Fajen in the late 80s early 90s. It was a thumbhole pepper laminate that I bedded a Rem 700 SS in 270. Harvested a lot of game with it. Interesting to me was where the wood came from was a company in Vermont called Rutland plywood. I learned of the manufacturing technique and was amazed how many layers and resin impregnated at 250,000 PSI. Was considerably more difficult to work with and hard on tools. Very stable and pretty much indestructable. A younger member of our club bought one and I handled it a few weeks ago and its definately a beefier receiver but it seemed well balanced and fit me well and I dont dislike the look but not really fond of the orange!!
