The 92FS is a duty gun, designed to be reliable and safe. The Shadow2 is a factory built race gun so you can't really compare the two guns. The 92X is basically a 92 that the Beretta factory has turned into a race gun.

I get that if not looking to compete I am just looking for a fun range gun would that change things?

It depends. If you're shooting for accuracy, the 92X or Shadow2 are going to be easier to shoot small groups with. More weight and better trigger. Now, if you always liked the 92FS and just want one because 80's movies, then get that, shoot it, and have fun.
 
I hate slide mounted safeties on any gun. I agree with rkm456. The 92X is a nice gun but expensive. The Shadow 2 is fantastic but the Shadow 1 does almost as much at almost half the cost.

Between your 2 choices, I would go Shadow 2 but at the price point, the Sp-01 will work just fine!
 
I have a Beretta 92FS Clone (Girsan Regard MC), and I enjoy shooting it. It is a very large pistol, and the reach for the double action trigger is enormous. If you have small mitts, keep that in mind. I always wanted a Beretta 92, so I bought a clone.

I like the decocker lever on the Beretta 92 over lowering the hammer manually.

The CZ75 SP-01 would be my recommendation, if you decide to go that direction, over the shadow 2. The CZ75 style pistol seems to fit everyone well, it's well laid out, everything is easy to reach and use. There are many places to buy bits and pieces for it (springs, magazines, holsters, sights, etc.) in Canada, and they usually have them in-stock. Unless you're super competitive, I'm not sure the higher price of the Shadow 2 is worth it, unless you want it, then go for it.

Or look at clones, and buy both for the price of a real Beretta 92 or a Shadow 2.
 
I will probably go with the cz. I will shop for deals on the exchange and see what is out there but you a good point about the shadow 1 I am pretty new to shooting. So the shadow 1 might be a better deal. When shopping for used pistols what round counts should I be weary of?
 
This isn’t even a contest.... the CZ75 platform is better and more reliable from the day is was created than the 92... I haven’t met a person yet that prefers the 92 after shooting both. If you then race gun the base models you get the S2 and the 92X. I haven’t seen many 92X’s win anything.... the S2 keeps winning.... it’s not even close. Don’t let anyone fool you. If you want to be happy with a 92X don’t even try an S2.

I wouldn't worry too much about round count on used pistols. Unless it was used as their primary pistol for competitive shooting, it's probably fine. Most people don't shoot enough to wear out a barrel. I think the barrels are rated to 25,000 rounds? Someone who knows more than me will likely give a more realistic number. Some springs get replaced around 5,000 rounds, give or take, depending on the pistol, and the shooter.

The CZ75 based pistols have a strong following, and with good reason. They are great pistols. That's not always what everyone is always after. The Beretta was a great service pistol, and was (and still is) in service with various Military and Police forces for a long time. The Shadow series are based off of pistol used by Military and Police as well, but are more refined for target shooting, from what I understand.
 
If you aren't looking for a purpose-built race gun, consider the vanilla CZ 75B. It's more of an apples to apples comparison to the Beretta.

You probably wouldn't even see a significant drop in accuracy until at least 75K+. Naturally there are many factors that will affect that number.
 
Best value will be SPO1 Shadow (1). With proficiency, it can go toe-to-toe against Shadow 2. I have the SPO1-Shadowline, and I have no intention of replacing it with the currently popular Shadow 2. If you can find the non-B versions of CZ 75 and CZ 85 (CZ 85 Combat), these pistols should be a closer comparison to the Beretta 92FS. With a shorter frame, double stack profile, and closer in weight and overall size, I would take the non-B CZ 75/85 in a heartbeat (85 Combat with ambi controls). Reason? Parts availability. Still your choice...
