Beretta 92 fs vs cv shadow 2

This isn’t even a contest.... the CZ75 platform is better and more reliable from the day is was created than the 92... I haven’t met a person yet that prefers the 92 after shooting both. If you then race gun the base models you get the S2 and the 92X. I haven’t seen many 92X’s win anything.... the S2 keeps winning.... it’s not even close. Don’t let anyone fool you. If you want to be happy with a 92X don’t even try an S2.

The CZ 75 series has done well and the Shadow 2 Variant has done very well competitively against the Tanfoglio Stock111 in IPSC but to say it is more reliable than the 92 Series is nonsense. The US Army did not use it for 30 odd years because it was unreliable.

For a new shooter who wants a decent range gun than there is no reason for him/her to buy a purpose built pistol like the Shadow2 when there are so many better options for his/her purpose. The 92FS and variants along with the regular CZ Shadow and 75 variants all represent better options along with any number of polymer pistols. the key is value for the dollar. The biggest downside to the Shadow2 is price and weight. Loaded it is over 50oz, dry it weighs to much for IDPA so unless you want to restrict yourself to IPSC and I suppose steel shoots you are paying a premium if all you want is a good range gun. If you like a steel gun the regular Shadow and 92FS represent real value with a nod to the regular Shadow used. If money is an issue a lightly used Girsan copy of the 92F can be had for less than $500 as will a few decent polymer guns. Lots of options. I personally would avoid purpose built guns with features that only are features for experienced shooters playing specific sports.

Lastly, virtually all modern mainstream pistols are 100% reliable when fed factory ammunition. I have seen Shadow2's become jammamatics when fed reloaded cartridges that was made to long or not crimped properly. I have also seen service pistols operate with ammunition that would choke high end competition guns. To the OP, when someone says their blaster is super reliable remember most modern guns are super reliable and virtually all will out shoot most casual shooters and a good portion of competition shooters.

The 92FS gently used can be had most days used on the EE for $700 - $850 as will regular Shadows. Used Shadow 2's can run as low as a $1,000 or slightly under. Buying new the gap widens as you probably know. If you find you don't like pistol shooting the Shadow likely will sell faster than the 92FS I suspect.

I should add for plinking and teaching and just for fun days at the range I bring my 92A1. There is a little bit of New York cop in all of us. LOL

If you can, hold each one. Better yet, try them if you have nice club members. You will find one that fits your hand much better than another, as mentioned above.
They will all go bang, and the bullets should hit the target. How easy it is to operate the mag release, safety, grasp the slide, should be your priorities.

The ergonomics of the Beretta don’t do it for me, so I’m a happy member of the CZ camp.

I've got the 92 FS with duty sights, a friends's got the shadow. My 92 is fun to shoot, turns in decent results, works great. If we swap I find his is fun to shoot, works great, but with its standard sights it blows away my Beretta results. However - mine cost $550 (surplus) his was $1300 new and mine is fun to shoot, turns in decent results and works great.

bogozzo is your gun the 92FS or the 92S surplussed by the Italian police? The Italian police guns have a heel mag release. The 92FS has somewhat better sights and has a regular located mag release and a few other minor changes.

You havnt seen a 92x win because there are barely any in Canada. They only went on sale very recently.

As for the op, if it is strictly a range gun, buy a Beretta 92fs. Save the extra money for ammo.

Just two days ago, I had to drive through Celaya on the way to San Miguel to pick up some stuff of mine that needed to be moved. Celaya is one of the deadlier cities in Mexico right now. The guy I was with is a bodyguard for my brother-in-law, a Mexican Politician who lent me his truck with a "driver" so I could go do what I had to do. We were chatting -- my Spanish is fluent -- and he let me in on the fact that he was an ex-Celaya-Policeman. I asked him how that was. He got into a few stories as we drove slowly past Celaya cops with their AR's and G-36's slowing down the traffic to look into each vehicle -- backed up by Army and National Guard trucks with F.N. Mag machine guns aimed not-so-politely at the passing cars.
"I really liked the Beretta 92" he told me. "When they switched to the Glock, I asked to keep my Beretta."
I just love this Central Mexico drug-war B.S., especially when my wife and kids aren't in the car with me. "Which Glock?" I asked him.
"Oh, they were Glock 17's" he said. "But I asked to keep my Beretta. And they let me." We got stopped and one of the ski-masked Cops came up and looked in the car from my side, and asked me where we were going. I told him "San Miguel". Then he waved us through.
I smiled at my driver and said: "Now, this is one situation where having a blond-haired foreigner in the car works to your advantage." And thus, we drove through Celaya.
"Do you still have it?" I asked him. "Your Beretta 92?" But he shook his head and said "no". He had to turn it in when he quit to go private.

My vote? If you are interested in Canadian range shooting or competing, go for the Shadow 2. If you are interested in using something they use in the real world, get the Beretta. If I am able to start up my own private Mexican Security Service (The Praetorian Guard Security) when I move back here, we'll probably be issuing the Beretta 92fs. Salamanca changed over to the Glock several years ago, as did Celaya. But I happen to know they have a couple hundred 92fs pistols still sitting around in their inventory and some of those could be "picked up" or even "scarfed" with the right political winds pushing my offer.

I intend to get one myself. Just to play with while I still have to do my time in Canada. I guarantee you, nobody here in Mexico in the Security Services is using a Shadow 2. (There are CZ-75's in service, but they are the hammer-dropper version, the CZ-75BD I think it's called.) Obviously, my point-of-view is not going to be the normal one you'll be presented with. But I give it to you honestly. Real world use over range-only any day. Just my opinion.

The problem is "real world use" is illegal in Canada.

I kind of wish TDC/KiddX was still around for these threads ;-)

I just spewed my coffee. Thanks!

GKS206 Oh I don't know. Just ask the drug boys playing 2 way in Surrey every other week-end or the hommies over in Toronto. They seem to think it is ok.
