So I bought, sight unseen, a Beretta 92 Italian Police issue a used gun, for $500. Wondering how much trouble I'm getting in here? Experiences with these? There a few of them around. This vendor has 6 of them. I wanted a Beretta 92FS I guess but took a chance. The gun Smith said the SA trigger of this one is 5#.

I’ve seen some police surplus for sale by dealers with significant exterior wear. Is it too late to ask for pictures? Most surplus pistols have not been shot much though, so hopefully it’ll have little mechanical wear.

Mine came with a brand new barrel and looked almost flawless aaide for some bluing wear on the aluminum frame. If you want some nice walnut grips for the 92s hit me up lol

OK consider your self hit up!

I am a regular customer of these cats so they looked at all 7 of these guns and stripped the best one. I'M told I got the best of these guns.

I bought one yesterday at my LGS. They are cosmetically worn but almost new functionally. I disassembled mine and inside the slide rails and other parts where you would expect wear it was almost new. Mine has significant finish wear on the outside on rub points from being in a holster its whole life. bore is as brand new but is the original barrel. You should be happy. I have made threads regarding these guns on multiple forums and have yet to hear from someone who was disappointed. Only complaint i have seen was the magazine they come with is also a surplus mag and some have weak springs. But who owns a gun and only one mag for it? I expect some good range time from mine. Also after researching the last couple days 99% of the parts are interchangeable with the 92FS. Including the barrel. So chances are you will be happy.

Oh and also the mags they use have a cutout at the bottom to use for that heel mag release. But if you buy Beretta brand 92 mags they come with that lower cut out. I honestly don't think it would be a big deal to make the cut out if all you could find was aftermarket.

My biggest search is finding a safariland basket weave holster for a reasonable price. I have a police duty belt with all the gear on it that i want to put this pistol on. Just for my own personal larping enjoyment.

So I called my local dealer and they have Promag magazines for the 92S for $40 and OEM mags for $90. I called the above dealer who shows his mags as OEM mags and also shows the Promag symbol in the add. I talked to the salesman and could not get satisfaction the his mags were OEM Beretta.

As far as I can tell a real Beretta mag has PB 9mm Made in Italy on it on the bottom. My dealer has both Beretta and Promag magazines.

Anyone able to clarify above? Experience with Promag magazines? I kind of don't trust the above dealer, expect they are selling aftermarket mags not Beretta mags!

If you got young eyes the 92S at $500 are very good value for all the reasons stated. For more mature eyes I think a gently used 92FS or 92A1 are better buys at the $700 level. For a truck gun, I use the phrase in lieu of a "knockabout range gun", the 92S would be perfect.

I second this. Heel releases get old quickly. A well maintained 92FS would make you happier. Or a brand new Girsan. I paid $550ish for mine and the quality for that price is impressive.

As it stands now I'm busy tomorrow or I would jump on my bike for a scoot up to the dealer and handle this gun. They have or had, haven't checked new 92FS, new and used M9, and used 92FS. Having to buy one or two new mags tilts the scale away from this gun. If I can't go tomorrow I can on Friday.

I justy picked up two new Pro mag brand 92F magazines. They are just dandy. $35 each at my local surplus store.

Well I rode out to see this gun. I looked at M9A3 new and used $1500-$1200. That is a sweet unit but triple the 92S. Their web site showed new blued and SS 92FS but they had none! I looked over this 92S it is a good gun, trigger little heavy in SA OK I think in DA. Obviously heavy but clean in DA. I bought two new Promags $40 each. The surplus 92S is a good deal. The sights are not great but useable.

Thanks for the responses EH!

I am heading out to pick my 92S up in about an hour. Transfer just went through. Will post pics to tempt you.

The 92S has a heavy SA trigger, but it's very crisp and easy to get used to. The sights and the mag release are the only downfalls, otherwise it's an all steel workhorse that can totally last a lifetime. Hope you enjoy it.

these are service guns , so they have heavy triggers on purpose.
I have sold some of the surplus that came in a while back and they have all been good.
I never checked out promags in them, The colt ones are O.K., not hi end , but for the money , they are fine.
When Wholesale sports closed, I was looking for a holster for S-W M19 and 1911's, They had a whole rack full of holsters and they where all 92's for some reason, Uncle mikes.
The only trouble I know about was a broken block, but that is in a gun that was shot with over pressure loads -ie SMG.
For front sights like this , for us old guys , a dab of white paint, than a top coat of pink, red, or whatever and it makes a huge difference

Love it. Absolutely happy with it so far. If it shoots half decent. Which I am sure it will then it's a definite winner.

More pics to tempt you. Thee is something about surplus police stuff that really gets me fired up.

Here is a pic of how the 17/10 shot "Pro Mag" brand mags fit. They actually feel better then the original.
