Looking to catch a black badge course this summer in Southern Alberta. Wondering why you don't seem to hear much about the Beretta and so much about the Cz's. With new production rules, I'm debating if I would rather use my 92 with a trigger spring then my Glock 17 or P320.

i just finish my BB and have completed 2 matches.

my suggestion is, find the gun you like the most and go thought the course. You will be able to answer this question yourself after you have completed the BB.

good luck.

You don’t hear much about the Berettas because they’re more of a duty gun than competition. But Beretta realized this and made a competition model. Slide mounted safety/decockers aren’t ideal.

I`d swear I saw someone use a Beretta at the IPSC match in Kamloops at the weekend

Having said that the amount of people using CZs is off the charts (I love my Shadow 2) - when you use one it becomes apparent that they were built from the ground up for this very purpose.

Use whatever you feel comfortable with but I would seriously consider trying a CZ

Take your black badge and shoot a season or two with whatever pistol you are comfortable with. Get into it before you kit out really fancy, it’s ok. Work on movement and safety. A shadow 2 and fancy mag holders will be fun when you get closer to the pointy end of the gear you started with. I shot 2 seasons with a glock 22 .40 and did fine, then I drank the shadow cool aid. They are great guns.

run whatever you like. Steve Andersen got to masterclass with a beretta that he stuck a red dot on. Shooting is a physical skill like playing guitar. If some one hands you a Stratocatser and you never played it will sound terrible Eric Clapton could play a great concert with a guitar that he picked up at a yard sale.

Never base your firearm purchase on what a pro uses.

They're:
1. Getting paid to shoot the gun.
2. Hand-picking the sweetest one out of dozens offered up to them.
3. Have multiple ones - so if one breaks or burns out - they just grab another.
4. Modifying it in many ways - within the rules, of course. ;)
5. Shooting hundreds of thousands of rounds through them.

If you must use someone as a standard - look to the top 10 at the Canadian Championships.
Most of them have to pay for their gun and don't have the luxury of training every day; they have jobs & families to support like the rest of us.
They make their decisions based on what can give them the best advantage within their budget
Right now, in production - that's CZ Shadow variants and Tanfoglio Stock variants.

I haven't competed in many years, but when I did my BB I used a 92F and competed with it also. The biggest issue you will have is mastering the double to single action transition. Once you have that mastered, you're good to go.

Is it a stock gun? Since they are both DA/SA guns, I would think the non- FO front sight, the long heavy DA pull and the fat girth of the Beretta would be a hindrance. Good on you to stick with it!

Fully stock, I've been shooting 92fs for 15 plus years, just my personal choice

But I can't say too much as I've never shot an ipsc match in my life!

I could be destroyed and place dead last lol
