So I didn't title this thread Beretta 92A1 review because its not a review. I'll leave that to more knowledgeable folks than myself. I just thought I would post this to give you some of my impressions of the firearm.

I got my license about 2 years ago and bought a Glock 22 shortly after. I have tried other handguns before but the Glock is where most of my experience comes from. Apparently I have gone too long without trying other pistols because the Beretta feels very very different than what I'm used to.

Cool factor:
I've wanted to own this gun since I was probably about 10. I was a big fan of Lethal Weapon and Die Hard growing up. So now that I own it, its sort of a big deal to me. I know that this isn't exactly the same gun they were using (92fs or M9) but its close enough.

I had wanted to get an M9, but when I saw the 92A1 I changed my mind. It just screamed buy me and forget the M9. This gun is beautiful. It has awesome lines and I just love the look of it. I'm a knife guy, and for some reason this gun has always reminded me of a dagger or short sword. So it gets a couple extra points for that. You can tell it was made in a country where they appreciate beauty. What a sweet piece. Clearly its been designed for function, but it doesn't hurt that it looks damn good while getting things done.

Range report the good:
I'll spare you from seeing my horrible targets. They were not worth photographing.
The manual safety took a little getting used to but I kind of like having it to be honest. Its not that it makes me feel safer, but its one more thing to manipulate on the gun which I like. More stuff to mess around with right? Speaking of stuff to mess around with, now I have a hammer. Striker fired guns are fine, but having a hammer to #### is pretty sweet. Shooting straight from DA is...interesting. I like to use it for practice to work on my trigger pull but I'm not sure why people bother with it. When you put a round in the gun the trigger gets cocked automatically. Its something I always wondered about when people complain about that first shot being DA. Hmm...
The de-cocker works as advertised and again I'm glad its there. I tried releasing the hammer by pulling the trigger while slowly releasing the hammer and it worked. But it was kinda awkward. The de-cocker is a nice feature so that I don't have to do it manually. Again, this is old news to most of you but new to me so I get a kick out of it.
It sits in my hand perfectly and is very comfortable. I have larger hands so this is not a surprise. Some of my friends have smaller hands and can't believe how large the gun feels. The angle of the grip is very different from the Glock, but I don't find that I had any problems with it.

Range report the Bad:
So a couple things I wasn't thrilled about...beaver tail pain. Sorry I don't know what else to call it. Behind the hammer the grip curves out and is not rounded. Its almost square. So after a hundred rounds or so I noticed my hand started getting sore where that part touches the web of skin between my thumb and index finger. It only got worse as the day went on. Not that I tried much to counter act it. I was always taught to try and get as high of a purchase on the firearm as I could so..
Loading the magazine was pretty difficult as well. Getting the 9th and 10th round in sucks. I ended up using the loader that came with the gun to save my thumbs. My Glock has the same problem, but after 2 years I don't really notice it any more. So hopefully the same thing happens here. Also when you insert a round into the mag the cartridge doesn't stay straight when it goes in. It has a tendency to point down stopping you from loading it. Again, I got used to it and by the end of the day it wasn't an issue.
I'm not the greatest shot so I didn't have very impressive groups. Had a lot of fun though! Anyway, I consistently shot to the left of my point of aim. I don't really know what to to counter this but I know its me not the gun. Strange thing happens when I'm shooting as well. When I am shooting at a target, the bullet hits parallel to the left. But if I shoot a can or empty ammo box I can hit dead centre where I am aiming. Go figure.
Last gripe. When you disasemble the firearm the switch you turn to release the slide is supposed to click back in place when you reassemble it. It did on mine before I went to the range, but doesn't now. It moves about halfway to where it should be and I have to move it the rest of the way. No big deal though. Maybe it just needs to be lubed or something.
Ok, second last gripe. The trigger. It works great. However, I notice that its made of moulded plastic covering a metal frame. Where the two parts of the plastic meet in the middle creates a seam. I can feel it on my finger when I place it in place. I plan on taking some fine sand paper to it just to smooth it out.

Final thoughts:
Although it may look like I had a lot of gripes with the gun, I did not. All of those things I think I will be able to overcome with a little more time with the gun. I am very happy with my purchase and am kicking myself for not getting one sooner. The difference in price from .40sw to .9mm is pretty big, so I should be able to get out to the range more often. I'm not very good with writing up things for others to read so I apologize if this isn't very organized or well written. But I will use it as an excuse for my failure in conveying how happy I am with this pistol. If you follow nuntfancy on youtube then you know 1st and 2nd type of cool. To me, this gun is all of those things and more. Maybe

I'm not a Glock guy after all. Money well spent.

Thanks. :D

Yeah I've always been a fanboy of the 92s way before I started looking at a USP in 45.

Now I own an Inox (that I want to sell) and just got my 92G Elite from the US a week ago.

Love the guns. They're fun to shoot.

Enjoy.

Luke

Nice gun! congrats! I'm the other way around: started with Beretta and ears after got a Glock. Still my 92FS INOX will be the last gun I'd sell.

Unfortunately, I think the 92 looks damn ugly with the accessory rail. Hell i think 99% of guns look uglier with a rail. Its a shame because it makes me hate the look of guns i would normally love...
